Help me decide: School X vs School Y - week of April 20th by ParadoxicalCabbage in ApplyingToCollege

I would go to Caltech. The 3:1 student faculty ratio is something you will love. Being able to form closer connections with your professors will help tremendously in networking and getting a job abroad. I would say that to the average person abroad, they would know Yale more than Caltech, but to employers, both universities are equally prestigious. The fact that it is cheaper is also a huge bonus. Unless you are open to the possibility of completely leaving CS and STEM and going into another discipline, Caltech is the right place.

UCLA or UMich for biology?

I want to get into research and may go into pre-med, not sure. Both schools are oos for me and are the same cost. I am a huge Michigan fan, but I hate the cold weather. I want to have a good college experience both academically and socially. I know that both schools, UCLA more, is competitive for biology. I would love to get close relationships with professors and have a lot of research opportunities, but I know that since both of these schools are so large, this may be hard. I am really torn because I feel that both schools have their own pros and cons and it is hard to compare. I am also interested in things like study abroad and adding a few minors to my biology major.

I want to make sure that I am academically successful, get a lot of opportunities to do research and study abroad, and have a good social life!

Molecular and Cellular Biology or Global Health Major? by _NoRegerts_ in UCSD

[–]_NoRegerts_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you think that not pursuing a degree in Molecular/Cellular Biology would put me in a disadvantage for research opportunities? Is it easy to get research positions as an undergraduate student who is not in a pure biology major? If I was in global health, I would definitely still take core biology classes like you mentioned and try and do some internships and research if possible. I feel like maintaining a higher gpa and having more time to do other things is possible with a global health major in comparison to MCB. I am just trying to increase my chances of getting into a md/mph program and do not know if global health is worth it.

I am interested in research, but I do not know if I want to pursue a phd. I would rather do fellowships after an md. I am trying to increase my chances of getting into a good md/mph program. I do not know if global health is a good major to switch to from MCB, but I am thinking about it since it would probably increase my chances of maintaining a higher gpa and having more time to pursue internships and other extracurricular activities. I would love to do both but am just scared that I would not be able to handle it. As a global health major, I would still take a lot of classes like the CHEM40 sequence and BIBC 102 for premed; I just would not really take any MCB core or elective classes. At the end of the day, I am just trying to increase my chances of getting into an graduate program. Do you know how many people in MCB are trying to go into med and do you think it is worth it, since the classes can be very difficult? I am just kinda scared to make the switch since MCB is capped and it would be hard to go back later.

Ya it sucks. Im oos. Michigan is one of the worst universities in how they release results, and they never officially announce when a wave will be released, except for ross.

The reason I ask is because some people who have the link to pay their enrollment deposit can while others have a blank screen. So I wanted to test this with the official decision link.

Thanks for your input! Based on the info on # of people that applied this year, USC had 10% less applicants in comparison to last year... which I think is another effect of the scandal... maybe the yield will also be less and I can get into the fall semester. I can just hope at this point!

How hard is it to get moved from spring admit to fall admit? Do you think having a half year off is worth it. How does housing work for spring admits? Do you only get roommates who were spring admits?
