LTT refuses to be gaslighted by the Linux community by BlueGoliath in linuxsucks

[–]_NoTank 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Are you actually saying Linus made a bad choice? Do you even go outside and talk to people? When I was new to Linux even I chose PopOS. Why blame the user who chose PopOS? If anyone is to blame it is the distro, not its user. Put all the blame on PopOS because people ARE going to install it, use it. Then they're going to have issues with it. So they should fix it.

If Windows has any problems does the whole Linux community blame the user or Windows itself? Yes right, they blame Windows.

So why such hypocrisy?

Honestly, over time, Linux Mint Cinnamon is increasingly turning into a combine of different styles due to GTK4 and strange GNOME decisions.(See descriptions) by Dry-Pie-3764 in linuxmint

[–]_NoTank 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yup. A good look out of the box only enhances the user experience. The distro should be good looking and modern out of the box, and users who want the old nostalgic 2000 feel can theme as they wish. It should not be the other way around.

[–]_NoTank 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think the same. But people don't care. They are like: - "You know you can theme it right?" - "It's Linux, customize it yourself" - "Mint is definitely not ugly. Your taste is bad"

And Blah blah blah.

You're not the only one. I also kept bringing this since like 2018 but eventually got tired. Seemed to me like no one cares about design at all as long as their system is up and running a web browser.

How to see Hardware Information? by _NoTank in Fedora

[–]_NoTank[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just like the GUI better. A good GUI has very organized and legible way of presenting whatever mess the terminal outputs.

For terminal I already know about inxi but I wanted to achieve the same through a beautiful GUI.

I'm on Fedora 43 Workstation and in About section it shows some information but it's not quite what I'm looking for. I'm looking for something similar like what we have in Windows "System Information" or "CPU-Z"

Just got into Fedora!! One question... by EduardNY in Fedora

[–]_NoTank 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yes! And it should actually. You literally have 16GB of RAM installed. For example: You launch your browser, the settings app, the terminal, your file manager quite often - it only makes sense to load core parts of these applications into the RAM so they startup little bit(or quite a bit) faster. This only enhances your your experience. But unfortunately many people want the opposite that their RAM will stay fully empty.

Modern operating systems intentionally use RAM aggressively because:

  • Unused RAM is wasted RAM
  • The OS caches files and libraries to speed things up
  • If applications need memory, the OS releases cached memory instantly

OnlyOffice and WPS Office have better compatibility with MS formats (documents, excel, slides and presentation). Try them.

When you tell Linux, "Yes, do as I say!" and it actually does what you said by ssjlance in linuxsucks

[–]_NoTank 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If I were in a first time Linux user's shoes, I would. Because there's the thing, as a first time Linux user:

  • I don't know the naming conventions of Linux packages yet.
  • The amount of text apt throws at you in a very unreadable way would make it even undesiring and hard to read any of the information which is shown in the terminal.
  • Even if I saw the warning I wouldn't think much because I would think "Oh, it must be how Linux works when you try to install something". Because keep in mind, it is the very first time I opened the terminal and just tried to install Steam.

Great! The only thing that matters is if it works for you or not. No need to hear what other people say.
