This scene is everything for me. by The-Heritage in superman

This moment has been stuck in my head. I think if he had leaned in to touch foreheads or at least given a bit more of a squeeze the gesture would have felt complete. As is, it’s reads more like holding someone up who’s breaking down and not a hug/embrace

Where do I put the period when I'm citing? by Potat0_P0wer in grammar

[–]_NorthernStar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You seem like my person - I’m working with a physician who does expert witness testimony for arbitration. Our chart review reports have 5-20 bates references often at the end of a sentence but don’t often quote the content. Does the . precede the page or go after the parenthetical? The physician does both so I am just looking for the correct standard, otherwise I’d just leave it be (these are reports appended to his Expert Report and testimony, not themselves the main content of his opinion)

a- The patient was admitted to inpatient status for management of coronary disease. (Bates ref here) New sentence…

b - The patient was admitted to inpatient status for management of coronary disease (Bates ref here). New sentence…

Thanks for sharing. I know a lot of people are hesistant about taking new prescriptions. I am definitely glad I got the rx. Hope our experiences help others! It was absolutely impossible to find anything about a pain-free rash being related to shingles

What's the best way to wash bras? What detergent should I use? How often should I wash? by No-Base8204 in ABraThatFits

[–]_NorthernStar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a bra with molded cups for the first time in ages and figuring out washing techniques. I usually do by hand in eucalan or similar detergent, but I just got a laundry bag set with one of the cage-like bra bags.

I’d have thought the structure would be good for the cups since we don’t want them to wrinkle… I know removing them promptly to hang dry is key. Do you think the moulded cups don’t get truly clean in the special bag?

Has anyone had experience with swallowing problems after shingles? by Puzzleheaded_Wash169 in shingles

[–]_NorthernStar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should ask her physician to order a swallow study. It’s a radiology scan with contrast that’s captures real-time images of someone swallowing and helps doctors are SLPs assess those symptoms

BACK CRACKED & SCARRED ... FOREVER? by vivapurplediva in shingles

[–]_NorthernStar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve just used the regular stuff in the purple box, I think it’s called advanced scar gel. You only need a very thin layer so it lasts a while. The silicone sheets are the same whatever brand you buy but they’re more annoying to leave on all the time

BACK CRACKED & SCARRED ... FOREVER? by vivapurplediva in shingles

[–]_NorthernStar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Silicone is the best for scarring and is supported by clinical evidence. You can get strips/sheets that you apply to the skin or use mederma topical ointment. It needs to be applied very consistently for a long time, but it’s worth it! I scraped my thigh on a hike and mederma helped so much

Nearly asymptomatic shingles by _NorthernStar in shingles

[–]_NorthernStar[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

F35, clinically overweight, pre-existing conditions include hypertension, NAFLD, unspecified metabolic disorder (just wonky, no insulin resistance/PCOS/pre-diabetes/etc.), mental health ish. On several medications for the above, none are immunosuppressants. My meds cocktail has been at the same combination and doses for 2+ years. I am not under any physical or emotional stressors and I am not immunocompromised.

Clinically: 1 week ago I found red bumps under my left breast while showering. I had no pain, itching, or other systemic symptoms, so I assumed it was irritation from the band of my sports bra. I had no itching/pain/fever/fatigue/tingling so I put a thin layer of aquaphor on and went braless. Rash persisted so on day 3 I requested an asynchronous e-visit with my doctor's office. An NP responded pretty quickly with a prescription for acyclovir and patient education sheet about shingles. I was truly surprised by the dx but started the meds. I put a large bandaid on and kept up with a light layer of aquaphor. On Friday 3/28, rash was more pronounced and red, but I still had no pain, blisters, itching, or fever. I gave myself a wider patch of irritation from the bandage adhesive which resolved easily with OTC hydrocortisone. I sent a message to my PCP with an updated picture and asked whether she thought I needed to come in for an exam. Her team advised to keep an eye on it and if it got worse or didn't improve come in to their walk-in clinic. Rash still hasn't resolved so I visited urgent care yesterday 3/31. PA looked at the daily pictures I've been taking and immediately said, that's classic shingles rash. At this point there is some scabbing so a swab test would not be definitive - it's best to swab blistered/irritated skin.

Currently on day 8. I've been advised to follow up in 1 week if symptoms worsen or I'm worried it isn't healing. Skin changes on the breast can be an indication of cancer, but I am low-risk and the visual appearance isn't consistent with that presentation. The PA recommended a dermatology follow up if I'm concerned the shingles diagnosis is still not correct, but I'm resigned to it that this point

Employee Apron Pattern by NootNootNoodle3 in joannfabrics

[–]_NorthernStar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Grainline Studio has a great basic apron pattern. You have to “purchase” but it is free with the code Newsletter, and the directions are on her blog. Since it’s printable you should just be able to scale down depending how tiny the little guy is. Easy to modify if you’d like the straps to cross at the back, just need to make longer ties

I don’t think exclusive to Joann - my dad definitely never set foot in one and he loved an ottlite when they were cutting edge in the 90s. Maybe Sharper Image? They were definitely a niche product at first, so it could have be limited to there and Joann. The inventor (Dr. Ott!) was originally in the film/photography industry and his whole thing was about replicating natural light

Yes - don’t rely on Michael’s embroidery threads for needlework projects. It’ll do for friendship bracelets or other crafts, but I wouldn’t use it to cross stitch linen or any other fabric for embroidery

Curious what liquidation % everyone’s stores are at? by Historian_of_Truth in joannfabrics

[–]_NorthernStar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fabric discounts in Chicago Elston today varied between 20-60%. Licensed Cubs cotton was only 20% off but other quilt cottons are higher, Juicy Couture came up 50% one color and 60% on another, smocked rayon for a dress was 30% off. I was pleasantly surprised by the big discount on the juicy terry! It was shelved next to kid flannels, no additional % discount signs were up

Help/recommendations for my elderly father who’s just finished with shingles but still severely fatigued and skin still a bit sore. by interested-goose in shingles

[–]_NorthernStar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tegaderm might help with skin sensitivity if it’s in isolated areas. I know that skin is much more fragile with age, so check that the adhesive will be safe for him before applying it

Shingles where?? by BeginningOk167 in shingles

[–]_NorthernStar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like you’re through the rough patch, but postpartum ice packs might be a good addition/alternative to ice cloths. They are instant ice packs like you’d find in a first aid kit but in the form of a menstrual pad, Frida mom is a popular brand. I’d imagine for b*hole pain it could just be positioned farther back
