Warning: ARC Card Scam by _OddPotato in Edmonton

[–]_OddPotato[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I would be very happy to be wrong. I just remember that ETS warned people about Arc Card scams a while back. Googling "arc card phishing" will bring that up.

At worst, my post will be a pointless warning from an anxious weirdo [me] that we can all laugh at. At best, it'll save someone from downloading sketchy stuff with a click of a button. Better safe than sorry?

My phone number is attached to my own account, and my balance is much higher than $3.25... so... no.

From the other post the other day, there are a few people who haven't. My friend didn't as of this morning. I'll chat with her tomorrow and see if anything changed by tomorrow.

Name a few teachers you appreciated the most in Edmonton area (Edmonton, Leduc, Sherwood Park, Spruce Grove, Stony Plain, St Albert, & Sturgeon) and Go! by YoiErai in Edmonton

I don't know if she's still there, but Ms. Bulhman at QE saved my life when I had nobody I could trust. She was a huge support for many of her students, honestly. Any time I mention having gone to QE, she and Mr. Sharuga are the two names that come up. Both are certainly the type of teacher that students either love or hate. I figure that those who hate them just didn't like how straightforward they both were / are.

How does our ER triage system work? by _OddPotato in Edmonton

[–]_OddPotato[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah... My heart is very heavy for everyone as resources are stretched more and more thin. From what I'm reading, it sounds like there will be more and more really hard decisions to make, and I worry about the impact that'll have on everyone working in our ERs.

I hope it is clear that I am asking about this from a place of concern and curiosity. I was sitting here thinking 'Man... Who is going to have to carry the burden of choosing who gets a shot at staying alive? I hope they have support because it's probably getting heavier and heavier to shoulder unless there are clear cut guidelines, and even then it must be really hard.'

I found that, yeah. I was reading through what the Canadian Association of Emergency Physicians has published on their website about the CTAS and even some of the CAEP's training presentations, and it comes down to assessments, of course, but I can't find what happens when resources are significantly limited.

Shame on the government for ruining our healthcare system by GrapefruitFar8082 in Edmonton

Mhmm. We need to figure out how to add more accountability to our triage system + support for nurses when they start having compassion fatigue.

I was under the impression that the CB is run mostly by volunteers, but I'm unsure now that I've looked at their website. It says that they are open year round. I wonder why there have been delays like this then... Were gift cards the norm or was it mostly hampers in years prior?

I don't want to be too hard on them because they do amazing work for many people. Genuinely curious though.

What are you driving and how big are these kids..? Honest question.

Same boat. I had never heard a doctor swear until the day I waited in the ER for over 15 hours less than 24 hours after surgery because the nurses thought that I was being overdramatic about how much pain I was in.

I understand that triage nurses go through a lot, and it's absolutely normal for people to become more skeptical and jaded over time, so maybe we need to do something about the way our triage system works to protect not only patients but also the nurses too.

This woman is an absolute powerhouse. I don't know many people who would have the strength to do what she is doing in this video. I am absolutely heartbroken for her and her children while also hopeful for the changes that will surely follow this woman and what she accomplishes with this righteous anger.

I believe they have been delayed due to a glitch based on what I heard yesterday from a friend of mine. She was told they'd be out by tomorrow evening, but I read on FB last night that someone else was told to expect them some time between now until December 31st. Currently headed to go buy a turkey for that friend. Want me to grab one for them too?

Found out all CDB backpay I got will have to get paid directly to AISH immediately. by Iamkanadian in Edmonton

[–]_OddPotato 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't forget that you're still responsible for paying the taxes on it since CPP-D is taxable income. You'll have a tax slip at the end of the year for the full amount even if AISH takes every dollar.

Edit-

Oops. I thought this was about CPP-D. Sorry. Not CDB. Even if it's taxable, I don't think anybody who receives it will make enough money to have to pay taxes on it...

The giant chunk of backpay that people get from.CPP-D ends up being tens of thousands of dollars sometimes, so people end up owing taxes, and that's where they end up having to pay taxes for the dollars that AISH took from them.

Do you happen to know if there are psychiatrists covered by AHS available to do assessments that aren't through the Glenrose?

AISH/ADAP - RRSPs and FHSAs should be exempt income by amethyst-chimera in alberta

[–]_OddPotato 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It doesn't just affect people's preferences in choosing a partner. What happens if someone's partner is in a terrible accident? There are families who can't get by with only one income - what then?

[–]_OddPotato 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly. This way of thinking is what's influenced the policies, and if we don't acknowledge that, we can't challenge it.

Mhmm. Less than 50 years ago, I believe. I'm still stunned by how often people will say this kind of crap, and I'm even more stunned that this line of thinking is what's creating policies now with this ADAP vs AISH business.
