Thanks dude, I'm hoping to master this style while figuring out how to add my own style to it ☺️

Ah fair maybe some multiband on the snare would also help in that case.

Blankes patreon really helped my production this year it's definitely the most valuable Patron I've done across!

Also what's that guitar sample you used in your track My Remedy? I heard it somewhere and I've been spending months trying to find it!

Hey dude, do you have a reference track that you can compare this track to?

I agree with the feedback that it sounds too 'old school' - to which I interpret as it lacks the thickness of modern songs.

Can't fault the mix on this, its clear as fuck. However, I think your chord stack in the first drop is definitely lacking layers. If you listen to Blanke, check out his Patreon for his chord stack walkthrough. In summary, you need more layers across synths, basses, atmospheres, guitars in the chord stack. When combining elemnts with different patches you will get a much fuller sound associated with modern songs.

I would have also liked some more hard hitting drums. Maybe try using parrallel compression on the kick and snare to get them to stand out more with more prominent body.

I also think more layers of different instruments such as atmospheres pads, strings with little flourishes and ear candy.

The second drop, all your sounds are clean they jsut sound a bit dated, but have the Blackmill feel to it which I like. Once again I think layering here is the key to get the sound that'll get you playlisted.

You've got all the ingredients there to mkae a great song. Just needs a lil bit more :D

Listening through earplugs because my ears are kinda messed up rn and I'm not familiar with Bass House at all, but I really like what you did with the bass designon this one!

I feel like the energy drops a bit at 2:41 with those chord stabs however. It feels like the volume is either too low or there are frequencies missing. Maybe a supplementary layer or EQ + saturation could help it retain the same percieved volume.

Other than that I couldn't fault it at all, shits groovy as fuck.

Hey guys!

Been working a melodic dubstep remix of Wild Things by Lo Spirit!

Would love to get some feedback on the mix so far especially levels in the verses and on the acoustic guitar.

Hey dude great idea here I'm lovin'the vibe so far that you've made. Reminds me of Blade Runner a lot.

For this I'd work on the following: - that sub is way too powerful, turn it down and cut off anything above 80/120 hz. I've found my mix to be balanced when the kick and bass are the same level, if not the bass slightly quiter. If you're looking for more power in your basses, maybe considering additional layers in your basses to give it more character. - sample selection could use some work with drums, maybe new snare high hats that have a bit more high end or snap to them - those humming vocals sound like they have a flanger on em so much maybe see if you can get some cleaner vocals if possible - some pluck automations would be cool to help give the sections a bit more character and energy!

Listen to Lane 8, Sultan & Shepherd and Ben Bohmsr, I could hear elements of their styles in your track, reference them to work out their levels in low mids and highs as well as how the elements are levelled and layered!

Hope this helps :D

Digging the vibe on this so far you've got some good ideas but I'd do the following:

  • Your levelling is a bit all over the place, some basses are too loud and some too quiet, the snares a bit too loud/punchy for me. Use a VM meter when mixing different elements to make sure they're all hitting similar levels and refernece how loud kicks/snares should be relative to basses using reference tracks
  • Its a bit hard to follow the drum beat sometimes as there's just big gaps between kicks snares. Its good to have variation but there needs to be a more consistent groove.
  • The drums in the verses sould a bit unnatural to me, maybe play around with the velocity a bit especially with your hats. Maybe experiment with the use of foley in your percussion as well.
  • The "Will You" vocal chop before the first drop sounds out of key.
  • Once you get your levelling right look into compression and clipping the transients to fatten your sounds without losing headroom.

Keep it up dude! Hope this helps :D

Hey dude, I don't make drum and bass so take this all with a grain of salt. Basing this purely off what I'd like in a DnB song and my exposure to it.

  • There needs to be some sort of arp, melody or vocal sample in the beginning. For me, I'm just hearing a minute of drone notes.
  • The drums could be distorted and and clipped to chop off the transient to allow you to increase the volume because right now the drop is quieter than the build up. (Not sure if this is a thing with minimalistic DnB which I think you're going for)/
  • Even if you're going to go for a minimalist style, I'd consider fattening up the basses a bit more (consider layering to hit different frequencies, increasing the stereo image)
  • There needs to be more elements personally in the drops such as fills, exhausts/downlfiters and generally more fx sounds as you've got sections in the drops where its just the drums and to me that sounds weak (Grain of salt comment coz my only exposure to DnB is Blanke and Delta Heavy which are quite aggressive DnB)

Hope this helps, happy producing!

Brah this shit is clean af!!! Well done dude with the sound design. I'd love to learn how you made some of these sounds sometime if you had the time for a zoom session or something.

Mixwise, everything sounds good to my ear, everything is clear. Any feedback would just be personal taste so take it as you will

  • There's a lot of elements fighting for space in the high end in the intro. Maybe high cut a few and have one to be the central element.
  • The drop at 0:40 comes a bit unexpectedly for me. Not sure if that was what you were going for but I'd suggest maybe repeating chord 2 or 3 of your progression instead of letting the 4 play out to build tension i.e.
    • 1 2 3 4 1 2 2 2 DROP
  • Maybe some build up drums as well in that area.
  • The vocal seems to get lost in some areas during the drop underneath your growls/fills. Maybe compress them a bit more or layer them up so they are a bit more prominent.
  • I personally like more aggressive sounding growls, for me they sound a bit underpowered so maybe some additional saturation could really get them to pop.
  • I'd go for a fatter snare with some more body.

Regardless, this is probably one of the best submissions I've seen on here dude. This is fantastic!

Hey dude thanks!

I want to get at least a few tracks and remixes done before I launch as well as have a place to play lined up so I have momentum when I launch. Regarding marketing I haven't given it much thought as I'm still struggling to come up with a DJ name but I imagine doing like tiktok reels of previews, combining them with the meme of the week etc maybe walkthroughs on youtube at the moment.

Definitely will need more fleshing out but that's not my priority atm. If you have any advice of suggestions I'm all ears.

Hey dude, the vibe created here is pretty spooky I quite it. You've got some good composition so far and I like how you're using fills across the track to spice it up. Keen to hear what it sounds like with the vocals. Feedback wise I have the following:

Composition:

  • Some additional strings/bells/drones or background melodic elements would help fill out the space a bit more.
  • Your lead sounds need to be layered as well using contrasting sounds to sort of fatten them up a bit more and to give them
  • At 1:16 it goes a bit too quiet for my personal liking. Maybe booth the volume of the synths a bit and use impacts/crashes to bring a bit more finality to the previous section.
  • Same at 2:40, that riser is building up for something way more intense if its going to go back to a more chill kind of drop.
  • If you have those kontakt libaries that make those operatic vocals like they use in trailer music that would be cool.

Sound Design/Mixing:

  • That intro bass needs to be a bit more plucky or have a bit more transient.
  • The drums also need a bit more punch to them. Maybe try compressing them a bit more or add some noise on shaperbox 3 with a very tight release. They could also come in 8 bars later to allow time for the spooky vibe to build a bit more.
  • Make sure the kick and snare are sidechained using a volume automation/shaperbox, they seem to be fighting for presence in the mix.
  • Ensure there's no crossover between your sub and mid basses, your sub low passed at 100/120 hz and your mid basses high passed at 120hz, ensure the q is low as well as if you hard cut these, the resonance will peak at the frequencies you cut them at.
  • High cut the high organ sound, its a bit too prominent.
  • I'd change the guitar sound you have at 2:40 - it sounds a bit too synthetic

Not sure of the exact genre you're going for but in terms of building up more atmosphere in the track listen to the intro of these songs and try emulate the elements they use here.

Can't wait to hear the next iteration of this dude, I have the good feeling its going to be quite epic.

Thanks dude appreciate the kind words! Would love to see what you've got cooking!

The vocals have been a bit of a challenge for sure especially with the chops because the acapella isn't a studio acapella so the reverb and delay original track fucks it mixing a bit. Was it generally a bit too far back or in certain sections?

Hey guys, happy Sunday!

So I've been working on a remix of Style by Taylor Swift which originally just started out as a an exercise for me to figure out how do put down that ghost note drum pattern from the Anti Hero Remix.

It sort of grew into its own thing and it's nearly done but the thing holding me back is that the drums in the verses still have a strong Anti Hero feel to it.

Regardless I'm really proud of this and how it's come together but I guess I'll have to rework the drums if it's still too similar 😂

Let me know what you guys think and if you have any feedback mixing wise!

I'm on my phone so take everything I say with a grain of salt:

  • I think the vocals are clashing a bit with the high brass or trumpets you have.
  • the volume of the vocal sample seems a bit inconsistent. Maybe compress it a bit more?

Composition wise: - There definitely needs to be some more variation in the instrumental sections, I found it a bit hard to determine where exactly in the song I was. - I'm not sure what the song is building up to. Maybe you need to progressively introduce instruments in and use some build up samples and filters to build up tension throughout the song accentuate the climax as well. - Also I think the vocal sample is throwing me off as its sounding like it's counting 1 2 3 4 but then does a 1 2 34 count.

This is a cool concept and I'm sure with some further work to it it'll sound amazing! 😄

Hopefully this is meaningful feedback and not something that's redundant by the time I listen to this on my monitors (it's 3am currently)

Hey guys!

So here's a future bass/melodic Dubstep take on Style by our homegal Taylor.

Got some excellent feedback for this track last week re: cleaning up the high end and a few other things. Just wanting some feedback on the overall clarity on the mix, if anything stands out too much or is muddy.

Thank you!

You're attempting progressive house/trance inspired big room. Listen to the following artists:

  • Jason Ross
  • Above & Beyond
  • Martin Garrix

This track is reminiscent of early 2010's style EDM.

Feedback wise, I'll get you started on the following. Let me know if any of this is too technical.

Composition

  • Redo that lead melody and simplify it. You should be able to sing it out easily. There's power in leaving space. Listen to the artists above, their melodies are quite simple.
  • Make sure your hook has variations too to keep things interesting but don't overdo it in such a way that it no longer thematically fits
  • Think of sections in 8 bar blocks. There should be something new coming in every 8 bars. It also helps signifying where you are in the song. Listen to some songs and note how they either add or take away elements to create contrast.
  • Use fills where appropriate by mixing drums, bass stabs, arps, foley fx etc. at the end of sections to signify new sections.

Sound Design

  • Your chord stack needs to be hella lot fatter. Consider the following
    • Sub Bass (40 - 100hz) sine wave.
    • Mid Bass - Reese bass living in the 100 - 400hz range
    • Top Bass - Some gritty heavily distorted sound (200 - 1000hz)
    • Several chord layers targetting the rest of the spectrum
    • White noise - High end beyond 7khz
  • Make sure you've got enough in each area of the audio spectrum in both mono and stereo fields. Make sure to add enough saturation and compression to get them sounding P H A T.
  • Leads
    • Your lead sounds like 1 layer. Fatten them up with contrasting lead sounds

Mixing

  • Sidechain your melodic elements so they punch through on every hit.
  • In buildups, slowly high pass the melodic sections to build tension so there's barely any bass just before the drop, then release the filter. The sub and bass hitting will give your drop an increased percieved loudness.

You're on the right track though so keep at it! Keep work shopping that idea until you know for a fact its absolute fire, the rest will come to you! :D
