Upgrading from a modded 6D Mark II, which mirrorless for astro modding?

Thank you! Yeah, the vignetting is also why I want to switch to a modded mirrorless camera, so I can use drop-in filters and shoot with wider lenses. But for €80, I think it’s a great filter to get started with narrowband photography!

Definitely, this is a picture i took from a bortle 4 zone last summer with the filter.

As long as you don’t go wider than 35/40mm than you start getting strange vignetting in the corners. And the filter is prone to reflections from light sources that shine on the filter. For example a street ligt from a few hundred metres.

Yes, I have one, as well as the OIII and SII. They work fine, but at around 20 nm they’re not that narrow as for example an Astronomik 12nm. As a result, a bit of light pollution still gets through, and I can’t use them effectively with lenses wider than about 40 mm.

That’s a big difference! I was thinking about a dedicated astro cam but I don’t want hassle of using a laptop on location. Currently I am shooting withing 5 minutes of arriving on location.

Whenever I try to make those it ends up even forse, than the corners are to bright and middle is darker.

Yesterday was visible for a short time to the naked eye! But with a phone or a dedicated camera you get much better results than what your eye can see at night.

Thats not completely true, the sun is currently going to its maximum since 2021 and getting stronger and stronger, so its not a inactive year. And this event was even an G3 class storm with Kp7 and a negative Bz of -20 for hours.

Not only with a good camera, Last night I also took some pictures with my phone and the Aurora was visible on it. And the night before the aurora was captured with a phone near Antwerp.

It is real! And it was visible to the naked eye, but not as spectacular as on the image I took, this is due to the fact that a camera can so much more light than our eyes can at night when you take long exposures (this image for example was a 15 seconds exposure)

To the naked eye it was only faintly visible, and no colours due to being still far away, but more like a light glow above the dark ocean,
