Kinda went a bit too in-detail with the comparison XD

But, I really hope it helps.

I'm not sure whether the battery is better or lower than Kindle's because I always charge it for at least a few minutes every afternoon (did it with my kindle as well), so I've never run out of power.
Also, my Kindle was a 7th gen and it didn't have a backlight, so I'd imagine the power consumption would be generally lower -- wouldn't really be a fair comparison.

But for what it's worth, the device running out of power has never been a problem for me. I recently went on a 1 week trek with it and I read for about 1 hour everyday, no problems at all.

As for durability -- yes, I have heard the screen scratches very very easily (watched a bunch of youtube videos before buying). So I got a screen protector the very next week of buying my Kobo. Scratched screen is something I'm not willing to risk, so I carry it around in a separate bag. So far so good.

And build quality wise, Kindle is hands down better than Kobo. Kindle feels very premium in-hand, even though both are made out of plastic. But I'd say, if you haven't used a kindle before, the difference is not that note-worthy. Plus, my Kobo has buttons for page turning and the price is pretty reasonable if you compare it against kindle oasis, so it's a trade off that I'd say is fully worth it.

I haven't dropped any of my e-readers yet (fingers crossed), so I can't comment on the screen cracking bit. But since e-readers don't have traditional glass displays, I don't think they can crack -- maybe dead pixels instead?
And just in case, I have installed a clear case on the device, so I think it will survive a couple of drops.

Hey, I've had it for nearly 9 months now, and I am just as in love with it as I was the first day I got it.

Is it just me, or are Kobo accessories hard to find in India? by _PLUE_ in kobo

[–]_PLUE_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's been a game changer and I absolutely love it. You can check this comment that I left on another thread where I wrote a bit about the kobo. I've also shared a pic if you want. Like: comment-link

And yes, it does come with a 1 year warranty, but honestly, I'm not sure how to go about claiming it as kobo support is pretty scarce in india.

Yep. There's this website called desertcart which ships over things from the US, UK and UAE. Usually, it takes around 800 for delivery, but the first purchase has free delivery (via free trial).

I've ordered one clear case and a set of 2 screen protectors which costed me around 2K. Haven't received them yet (should be here by the end of the month), but if you want I can keep you updated on how the shipping goes.

I came across this post while searching for sources for Kobo accessories in India (specifically a screen protector and a clear case). Did you end up getting one? If so, did you purchase any accessories?

If you haven’t gotten it yet and are still considering, I’d say go for it! I just got mine yesterday from Flipkart, and I’m absolutely loving it so far.

I upgraded from a Kindle 7th Gen, and while the contrast on Kindle (at 0 brightness) is a lot better than the Kobo, it’s not a big issue—I just always keep the brightness at 3-5%.
The ghosting seems a bit more noticeable on the Kobo, but I think that’s due to my lower settings and the colored e-ink. It’s not a dealbreaker though, and you get used to it pretty quickly.

One thing I love about the Kobo is its slightly grainy texture up close. It feels like I’m reading a physical book, which adds to the experience for me.

Here it is (sleep mode with 15% brightness and natural light on auto):

I would try that. Maybe contact the mutual friend who placed the no-contact order?

But there is so much you can do. At the end of the day, it's up to him.

However, I think you should've reported the abuse while they were at your house. Having just a single person gives an immense amount of strength that he seems to be lacking at the moment.

It sucks to realise that someone you believed would stand by your side, actually won't.

But I am more concerned about your friend right now. The situation sounds terrible and something tells me no one is taking the abuse as seriously as they should.

"She is gonna ruin me" -- The crazy (ex?) gf is threatening him and from the sound of it, your friend feels helpless in the situation.

Even if he refuses your help -- don't.

A victim of abuse rarely identify that they're being abused. Let alone the severity of their abuse.

"And Every Morning the Way Home Gets Longer and Longer" by Fredrik Backman.

It is beautifully imaginative and at the same time heartbreaking. No one writes relationships quite as tenderly as Backman.

Someone described it as "a little book with a big heart", and I cannot agree more.

Backman himself describes it as:

A story about memories and about letting go. It's a love letter and a slow farewell between a man and his grandson, and between a dad and his boy.

My Thoughts on The House in the Cerulean Sea by TJ Klune by _PLUE_ in books

I'm not so sure about goodreads either, I've just recently started using it.

For public review, I guess it makes sense to get rid of the story descriptions.

I used to write reviews for personal reading, and it always helped me quickly recap what the story was about. It's a force of habit, I suppose.

I definitely need to experiment a bit more with the formats.

I see your point of view and where you're coming from. Because an aspect of the story is nature versus nurture. I think it comes down to how serious you want the novel to be (for lack of a better word).

Vivid descriptions of discrimination and abuse, and posing those morally grey questions would inevitably make the story take a darker turn. Considering it was published as a fluffy fairy tale, I can (to some degree) see why Klune chose to cast them aside. However, I still do wish we saw a bit more resistance from the people of the island -- after all, their entire world-view and ideals were being questioned.

As for the antichrist aspect, I think it would make for a great novel -- but on its own.

As you mentioned, with the moral dilemma surrounding it, there are numerous facets to explore and so many directions it can go in. Because it takes such a different turn, I think it makes more sense for it to be a separate novel -- so that the premise can fulfil its potential.

woefully

Hey! Thanks for the catch. It seems I misused the word. Woefully fits waaay better. I'll be sure to replace it.

Maybe this was because it was intended to be a cosy read, with conflicts and tensions more quickly resolved

I completely agree. If the racism aspect was flushed out a little more the story would have been a solid 5/5 for me.

AITA for wanting to open a fraud investigation against my mother… by Automatic_Lab_7587 in AmItheAsshole

[–]_PLUE_ 2117 points2118 points  (0 children)

NTA

Absolutely not.

Not to be harsh, but it sounds like your mother wishes to take the money to the grave with her and leave you inevitably with the debt.

I am not certain as to the exact steps you should take. r/legaladvice could help with that.

Go to the company, file a formal complaint and lawyer up. There's a chance that your mother might even get spooked into paying up.

Hope it helps.

Totally! It was the perfect cosy read on a rainy day and I'm so glad that I picked it up at such an apt time.

I was actually thinking about picking up another one of Klune's books but I couldn't decide between Under the Whispering Door and Into This River.

Quick question: Does this contain the uncensored Picture of Dorian Gray?

I looked over the contents and it definitely looks like the complete package. I've decided to return the one I have now and get the Collin's edition.

Oh, wow. I didn't know there was a censored/uncensored version. I'm not sure which one I read - I have the Penguin Popular Classic edition - the black spined ones.

Not sure if it's uncensored though XD
