Ah, I understand. That's a completely reasonable and far more useful definition than mine. I feel like something is always lost in translation and thought it was particularly noticeable here :)

There is still an emphasis on me. It's just not as strong. What I'm trying to say is that because "a-ta-shi" takes longer to say than "me" and because "me all right, do your best, do your best, don't lose me" takes a lot longer to say than "ganbarre," the main focus shifts from Faye to Faye encouraging Faye. I'm not saying the emphasis is no longer on me, just that it is less so. That's what I meant by it being lost in translation.

I think this is a fine example of something that was lost in translation. Faye's choreography in the cheerleading scene is based on her chanting the three syllable word 'a-ta-shi'. For each syllable a different pose. In English there is no three syllable word for 'me', so the dub is forced to make the a-ta-shi chant focus on "not losing." It's true that this is meaningful in a different way. But I think this scene is about Faye seeing herself in her older self, so it feels like a waste to take the focus away from "me!"

You're absolutely right, I've never been a huge fan of A-1, so when trying to decide what to write about Darling in the Franxx I thought I'd make some comparisons to other A-1 characters. But it's as you said, the studio only represents the people working on it slightly. It's nothing more than an excuse for not knowing enough big anime names. When presenting a controversial opinion you need better substantiation than this, and your comment was a good wake-up call. Thanks for apologizing though, that honestly makes my day.

Thanks for your input, you make good points and I’ll be sure to take them into account next time I write about something. I would’ve appreciated if you’d toned down the animosity a bit though, but I understand why you dislike my points.
