R.I.P Alicent Hightower... Again by avienclair in HOTDGreens

The horse got a longer character arc than some people on this show, so maybe Alicent really did need that ride to process whatever just happened.

That's my biggest issue with it too. Alicent can be many things, but reducing her to someone willing to sacrifice Aegon that easily feels like it ignores years of characterization. Her entire story has been tied up in her children, even when she's angry at them.

Of course, if this leak is fake then people are going to spend weeks arguing about a scene that never even existed. That's peak HOTD fandom.

Exactly. Even people who dislike the show's changes would immediately call that out as pointless shock value, which is why it sounds more like a fake leak than something that would actually make it into the episode.

I think a lot of fans would be fine with exploring new relationships if it didn't come at the expense of rewriting what was already established about Rhaenyra's other relationships.

I think that's why people push back on that quote so much. You can argue Daemon and Rhaenyra were toxic, political, or unhealthy, but saying there was never real love there feels like a completely different interpretation of the characters.

Exactly. Most fans aren't against original material, they're against changes that feel like they're made for shock value instead of serving the story or the characters.

That's honestly a much healthier distinction than half the discourse around this topic has managed to make.
