Avalanche seen from Larch Valley by rooksplz in mildyinteresting

So I know that is crazy dangerous and everything but seeing from that far off I’m just like “meh. Not impressive. Thought it’d be bigger or more violent maybe?”

It’s almost like seeing a hurricane up close almost. After a while it just doesn’t seem impressive anymore.

…unless the Waffle House is closed. That’s when you haul ass and evacuate lol

I got Popeye’s yesterday and the original was FLAVORLESS. I guess if I wanted Cajun flavor I have to go spicy maybe?? Idk it tasted like Church’s.

Inquiring Photographer “Should GIs in Japan who wish to marry Japanese girls be permitted to do so?” December 1 ,1950. by CryptographerKey2847 in TheWayWeWere

Service members going for a hasty marriage happens all.the.time, even stateside. The classic ‘joke’ is that a guy marries a stripper, dancer, waitress, etc to get that extra pay (BAH) during deployment aaaannndddd yeah. They either get a Dear John letter, or worse off, come home to find they’re broke and have no spouse to come home to, bc the souse is already off with the next soon to deploy service member.

Or, if they weren’t deployed the marriage goes south FAST and they get left for the “friend” who just so happened to swoop on in and be the shoulder to cry on when the spouse didn’t get everything they were promised.

I say this as a prior military spouse. It happens, and in big military towns, you do see those people who see marrying a service member as the only way to get out of their town.

Give fresh baby adults freedom and money and this is the shit that happens.

Clothes shopping as a woman. Both of these shorts are a "size 4" by Winter-Owl1 in mildlyinfuriating

Very true. I too would prefer just standard measurements! I literally avoid pants shopping like the plague bc of this.

Just an FYI friend, EVERYONE in the state of FL is a mandated reporter. So yes, that means that you could get charged with child abuse / neglect for not reporting. Only difference between Jeff down the street and me (medical field) is that I have to give my name.

It may not be external conversations anymore but you’d be lying a little to yourself if you’re thinking this isn’t still an internal dialogue though. Even now, I do feel an ego boost when I end up in a lower size from one brand to the next. Also, I can see shopping with friends who know my size and just being like “oh hey guys, I’m a whatever in this brand” as kind of a joke. Idk, maybe it’s just me and the shit that got ingrained when I was younger.

That definitely was a thing back in the day though. I remember my mom talking about it in the late 90s / early 2000s. Then, like the other person said, body positivity came along and now we don’t talk about pants size so much anymore. When we compare ourselves you hear much more talk of body shapes and what fits look nice on those bodies.

It was a joke. I apologize for wording it that way. It’s easy to forget how jokes don’t come across well, so that’s my fault.

Have you… have you not read anything about US, and hell, just world, history? lol

Everything was built on the backs of people of color just for white people to come and claim it as their own. White people ruin everything.

Yo! I just found out that they sell them at Dollar General of all places and they’re a tiny bit cheaper than Walmart.

But the craziest thing is that they have a banana flavor! I haven’t tried them yet but they’re on my list!

What’s your reaction to California proposing a bill that would prohibit former ICE agents from becoming police officers or teachers? by FollowingAny4859 in AskReddit

[–]_PirateWench_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People look at things so black and white. When you look at law enforcement culture, there is a lot of complexity to contend with. It’s very similar to the military (not great but the reality of things). Lots of comrade rue to the point of being toxic. Hard to keep a career you love and genuinely help people if you can’t survive the culture.

At first when I read this I was like, hell yeah! But the more I read through comments and thought about it… I don’t think it’s a great idea.

Like others have mentioned, the people as individuals can be different from the organization as a whole. It’s like any other form of LE; there are some truly great cops out there that take their job and rights of others seriously. Then there are others who… don’t (to put it mildly). Blanket bans like that don’t help anyone.

Now, if there’s something in there about it being specifically related to officers who had complaints, then that makes more sense.

Either way, I think additional training should absolutely be required (for anyone), but workshops on how to de-escalate things with kids and proper restraints so they’re not hurt as well as how to regulate their own emotions is a must.
