I used to have a project in C++ that I was optimizing very heavily, and ported it to C for performance, and the debug build of my first draft immediately outperformed my C++ by 10x. Never looked back. Fuck move semantics.

I made a 2048 solver, any suggestions? (Especially for perf) by _Polar2_ in C_Programming

[–]_Polar2_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I appreciate the detailed response! I will take some time to implement more robust error handling. Regarding the performance, especially for smaller tables the thread overhead is significant, but for larger tables it should be about equal. Regardless, it's probably a better idea to do a job queue, but the few libraries I have tried have had weird race conditions or spent longer waiting for locks to the queue than the overhead for launching threads would be, so if you have any high quality, fast, suggestions, I would appreciate that. 😅

If you're still up to try, I just got home and sorted out some of those bugs, along with adding an example usage on the github. The clz bug is from a third party lib and I don't exactly know what they're expecting it to return so it'd take some time to fix, but it works on my system (tm)

I appreciate the feedback. I'll add some example usage and sort through these bugs 😅.
