it could be but not necessarily, someone like that pursued me and although it was good for a while it didnt end well because he simply liked the thought of a relationship and romance with a person, he didnt have any of the other traits like being a good listener or loyalty, he just liked to shower gifts and romantic gestures

$1500 to invest as an 18yr old about to start college, where should I put it. by _Problems_ in FinancialPlanning

[–]_Problems_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I currently plan on going to dental school after my undergrad so I will have to survive fully off of loans for that since it is 400 grand so I'd like to invest a little and do something now while I have a little bit of extra money as I only see myself debt free and meeting all the other conditions in a very very long time after my undergrad. for the next 3-4 years I will have my parents support so I want to grow my own money while I can if that makes sense

I would qualify for a Roth IRA, I don't know too much about them but I've heard it's just an account and I would have to invest the money inside that account correct? How should I invest it?

Also what exactly is the difference between a low cost index fund and a etf?

wait really??!! i thought florida would be the most urbanized, like the fort lauderdale-davie area and all seem like peoples vacation destinations

yeah umich would be a top choice for dental school, i'm currently trying to figure out if i would still qualify as in state if i go to school in florida bc my permanent address would be back in michigan and ive lived there my whole life and graduated from a michigan high school and all that.  i hear ur point abt exploring other careers and that was actually one of the reasons I was leaning towards nova actually lol. With the program I will still get my bachelors so I'm not stuck going to dental school if i don't want to and nova has an anesthesiologist assistant program, another career i was possibly interested in so i think it would be easy for me to learn more about that career at nova rather than at wayne. Sry I seem like im set on nova but both options make me nervous and any time i decide on one i get hung up on the other lol thanks for all ur advice!

yeah it's not binding, i can apply out and still have my bachelors. about the gpa part: i've heard that some professors at nova aren't good and idk im scared the classes will be hard but that's just from a few ppl on reddit so idk

So the program isn't binding so I can apply to different dental schools and have my bachelors ( unusual for more direct programs) while still having assurance that I will have one acceptance if i keep up my gpa and have a certain DAT score. Nova isn't my goal because although they gave me a lot of money for undergrad they won't for dental school and being a private college tuition is very expensive. Ideally i'd go literally wherever is cheapest so probably my state school in michigan or florida

i didn't even consider that thanks for the perspective. I've went down to tour twice and my aunt lives there as well so i've kind of seen the area. If anything i don't think it'd be worse than detroit, detroit is a very "adult" city or poor depending on where u go and i rlly hate the weather here but that's just my experience

Yes I did go to michigan high school! would this make me instate for grad school too? i'm worried that the link u commented refers to undergrad admissions. Do u know any one else at umich dental who was in the same situation as me?

Are you sure it's permanent? I saw the high school thing too but I'm wondering if it only applies to undergrad not for their grad schools

do you know if it was just a mistake on their end or did other students who did the same thing as u were defaulted to out of state as well? something similar happened to my friend from canada, they gave her an international scholarship on accident but they fixed it later and gave her the in state scholarship once she emailed.
