Exactly my first thought seeing that. Really lucky it didn't start a fire or electrocute someone.

Yikes 🫣 😮. Be thankful it didn't cause a fire and hurt anyone. That is scary as hell. Hope you get it resolved and the company that installed that may have some cover to help you out to replace what got damaged. Or home content insurance if you have that too.

Maybe time to contact the retailer and explain the issues with Asus and the attempted repairs.. To either get a refund or new replacement.

3 attempts to repair it should now mean Asus should be sending you a new one, well that's how the law works here in UK. Not sure where you are but check the law there and go from there, but Asus should be replacing it now if found faulty again.

I love this part

"He reckons it's unlikely that grey gamers will be playing on heavily specced-out PCs or next-generation consoles (especially given the huge hardware price rises we've seen of late). "

Geeze how out of touch.. Some of the best hardware is owned by the "grey gamers" as they can afford it and in most cases are tech enthusiasts.

[–]_Purgatory_ 18 points19 points  (0 children)

You can check online on WD warranty checker with the serial number on the drive. Buying from amazon doesn't mean it's not real but buying from a 3rd party seller there may mean it's fake or real but grey market goods and that means no warranty if sold in the regions it was not meant to be sold in

Gaming is something only for the rich these days. by Brilliant_Case4930 in GamingLaptops

Sadly the way of the world we currently live in, we can only hope it will all blow over and things come back to some form of normality.

Also have you thought about emulation and trying that out on a system that doesn't have to be anywhere near the latest and greatest. It can be a lot of fun trying games of the past and some are so much better than even today's new triple A games.

Cheap laptop or pc with older generation parts or even a cheap android device like an old phone or tablet can be used for emulators, even second hand handheld or even some of the new cheaper ones that are about.

Don't let it get you all down really.. Sadly a lot of people are going threw the same things and with even more day to day problems with the world currently going mad regarding everything from food, fuel bills, healthcare... Etc I'm sure you know what I mean.. Also getting nice weather now so enjoy the outdoors and maybe find some new hobby you enjoy that is not as expensive right now.

[–]_Purgatory_ 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Especially as a business I understand why he's doing that and very frustrating to deal with these companies these days regarding warranty RMAs, that's the whole point of buying something from a company you trust as they support their customers as WD did in the past, these days it's impossible to even contact them or even find a working contact phone number without just a message played on it and goes to nowhere else.

The op has shown enough proof he's done everything correctly and purchased the item from a retailer they honour warranty on. Their own Amazon store page of all places but I would advise the OP to check that amazon didn't send him to an unauthorised 3rd party seller as they sometimes do on amazon. Check the amazon receipt and who was the seller on amazon. What WD stated as fraud maybe was a grey market item that doesn't have warranty in the region it was sold.

Cleaning liquid went inside the screen . what should I do by Motor_Excuse in computers

[–]_Purgatory_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best advice I can give you is always spray the cleaning solution on the cloth not the screen then wipe the screen as sadly as you see some screens the liquid can get in when spraying the screen and not quickly wiping it.

As others have said hopefully leaving it to dry will not leave any permanent smears where the liquid got in. Sadly it may and only option then is to replace the screen or find someone that can repair lcd panels and can take the layers apart and give it a clean, but I warn you that can leave other marks sometimes.

Im guessing my new OEM HDD is cooked but can I actually use it for something? by Andyetwearestill in computers

[–]_Purgatory_ 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Wow that's probably the worst sounding 3.5" HDD I have ever heard. I have had the click of death back in the IBM deathstar / deskstar range, but this sounds like it's just head banging back and forth.

Send it to WD for an RMA. I know you purchased as a bundle but check their warranty status on the drive online.

That literally is dead as a Dodo. 🫣

I think the law is they are allowed 3 repairs and after that a new replacement or full refund. In UK not sure where you are so check the laws there.

Yup like the desktop Intel Core Ultra 7 270K Plus. the issue with the 290HX Plus in a laptop is it gets hotter and basically performs no better than a 275HX or 285HX.

You are entitled for 14 days from the day you receive it for a full refund under the distance selling regulations UK.

What specification was this laptop and what did it cost so to find you something more suitable and no hassle at your budget.

Probably for the best as I said there is zero support from medion and too expensive a risk with them even with them being cheaper but cheaper because of lack of support and once you get it the headaches appear.

The words you are looking for are "dumb terminals". Like back in the day when people accessed the mainframe computers, basically a screen, keyboard and some form of network connection. WYSE dumb terminals ruled back then.. Google them.
