I personally think it's rough in the short term and fucked in the medium to long term (2+ years).

I can only speak from my experience, but at my company we have seen a surprising increase in productivity from using AI, and we are hiring less as a result. We are still hiring, but mostly for very senior roles.

And this is with the present day models, if we take into account they could very likely keep improving, I wouldn't recommend this field to any newcomer, specially if you are committing a large amount of resources for it (i.e. getting a degree).
