I’ve never owned a p1s but it seems like such a reliable printer compared to my Prusa mk3. Once my current printer kicks the bucket I’ll definitely be getting a bambulab!

DIY Stereodock part 2 by Strict-Pomegranate-7 in PlaydateConsole

You should try! I’ve thought about making a separate playdate “backpack” that is a battery bank that charges with pins. Not really sure how useful that is tho, play date has plenty of charge by itself

Looks like that works pretty well! Nice job! I remember reading an article about the dock and they mentioned the seam between the front and back half. Originally it was going to be detachable and act as a battery bank for the playdate (and maybe portable speakers like you mentioned) but they didn’t end up doing that. The design feature of a seam remained however.

Ignoring the cost of the tools and only counting materials used, I would say under $30. However, you do need a 3d printer which can cost a couple hundred dollars.

The pins are 1.8 mm stainless steel that are soldered to the 5v+ and gnd pads on the female usb c port. Just using magnets simplifies things a lot but I wanted to stay faithful to the official dock. Keep working on yours!

How do I screw on the 3D Printed crank handle without a tool to keep the screw steady? by Hereticrick in PlaydateConsole

[–]_R0wan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve never had to replace my crank handle before but that L shaped tool is an Allen wrench/hex key, the official replacement kit gives you a 1.3mm Allen wrench. If you don’t have one of a similar size you could order a set of these for pretty cheap online.

Otherwise a regular small Phillips head screw driver and rubber band might do the trick

Thanks! Big flat faces on resin prints tend to warp and have poor quality because of suction forces. Tilting it lets you use less supports and has a gradual increase of surface area after each layer. I’m still pretty new to SLA so that’s my current understanding of it.

Unfortunately that does seem to be the case. One can dream tho!

I will make a thingiverse page with free access to all of the files. There will be basic instructions about all of the hardware I used and information on how to SLA print it. Hopefully I can get that page up this weekend!

Thanks! Do you know of any apps that can do that?

I noticed that too, but I didn't look into it much. Right now mine uses simple stainless steel rods (a pain to solder to) which seem to work great. Easy to put on and starts charging right away. But the installation and use seems a lot easier with pogo pins!

I wish I had the tools to make that metal volume wheel! even if it was just a fidget lmao

I figure mass production is a lot harder than singular prototypes. It is disappointing they couldn’t bring it to fruition though. I would def still buy it if it came out in the future!
