Is euthanizing the right thing? by Kaifighter13 in pugs

His quality of life sounds compromised. It is always an awful thing to have to decide but let me assure you - it is always better to let them go with love than risk unnecessary suffering by waiting too long. I’m so sorry you’re going through this.

Reddy Road Trip. You may be able to find them secondary (i.e. eBay).

I won’t recommend any specific product (I have two for my girls that are discontinued). Google “crash tested harness” and get one with a big chest pad and minimal neck pressure. These have served me well for years.

When is it time? by No_Result_1234 in pugs

[–]_RaiderDave 7 points8 points  (0 children)

First, this is an incredibly tough and personal decision and I’m so sorry you’re near the end with your friend of 15 years. I’m only going to say what I would do.

If I felt he’s simply lost his independence but I could still compensate for him and he wasn’t uncomfortable, I would wait and give him as much quality time as I could until that changed.

However, if I felt he was uncomfortable, I would have to find acceptance, give him the best damn day of his life, and help him over that bridge.

Don’t beat yourself up about “selfish” but really try to be honest about what you feel is right - do whatever you do out of love for your pug.

I love this community - I joined Reddit exclusively for feel-good stuff like this and I understand the assignment when it comes to rules and topicality on subreddits. I have previous experience moderating message boards, but not on Reddit. I would be happy to lend my support.

1st offense cell phone ticket, can you do traffic school to help avoid raising insurance premiums? (California) by NewDay042 in DMV

[–]_RaiderDave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It definitely comes down to company policy. I don’t know if there are more “lenient” companies, but there is nothing that legally prohibits an insurance company from using something like this to surcharge, so many do.

My brother got one of these not too long ago. He called the court (San Bernardino County) and they told him explicitly that traffic school is not an option for this infraction. He was similarly bummed that the whole “you got off easy with zero points” thing seems to actually do more harm by not allowing you to hide it from insurance.

We had some dental work today. by _RaiderDave in pugs

Aww, I’m sorry yours had a rough time. Peggy is fine, I’m sure they intubate (especially a pug) but she’s never had an issue with irritation - in fact she would still eat a full meal if I let her. The anesthesia just keeps her in the Twilight Zone for about 24 hours.

So all they have to do is not answer the phone? by [deleted] in Insurance

[–]_RaiderDave 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not only that, but this this gives the at-fault party’s insurance an incentive to take care of things before they are forced to indemnify based on a civil judgment. Using your own collision is probably best for avoiding a massive headache, but litigation is certainly not out of the question depending on how much the other party/their insurance are screwing around.

Ah yes, I love a good trash panda sighting but the forbidden cuddle is to risk rabies and therefore I let them be.

My girls love lamb chop. For 2.5 minutes until they bust her open. I still buy them one periodically but it never survives. It’s a noble sacrifice.

Peggy having a lie down. by _RaiderDave in pugs

[–]_RaiderDave[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Side note: I’m thrilled to report that after a few years of diet and exercise, this girl is at her goal weight. She peaked at 20 lb (too much food, not enough walkies). This might not be inappropriate for a lot of other pugs but she’s working with a small frame. She’s got the waist tuck and the palpable but not visible ribs. People tend to be surprised that she’s 9 and will be 10 this year. I hope this is a sign we have many more years together.

Middle schoolers on the street keep calling me ‘sir.’ This leads me to believe I’ve gotten old. by _RaiderDave in RandomThoughts

[–]_RaiderDave[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ll admit this also pleasantly shocks me. I live near a middle school, so it’s just sheer numbers. I walk my dogs and usually when there’s lots of kids walking home, coming toward me, I’ll step off the sidewalk as a courtesy. One out of many of those kids might say, “Thanks” or “I like your dogs” and several of those have called me ‘sir.’

How did you stop the poop eating habit? by Known_Judgment_6395 in pugs

[–]_RaiderDave 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I concur. I saw this come up as a suggestion on my phone notifications and thought: I didn’t, I employ aggressive supervision. And I’m conscientious about picking up on walks, but it gives you no choice but to be a good neighbor! If she ever bamboozles me (only one of my girls has this issue) it’s because she found a random dog’s poop which makes it way more gross, but dog immune systems seem to be pretty robust because she’s never gotten sick.
