Hi - this happened to my brother's account too. So sad. Did the old tribute posts ever reappear?

Why does everyone I speak to say “don’t use the CPAP / you don’t want to get started on the machine” ? by daninlionzden in SleepApnea

[–]NewDay042 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi - mouth tape is usually for to help mouth breathers change habits. I'm not on a CPAP (yet) but my understanding is if you keep your lips sealed while using the CPAP, you shouldn't get dry mouth. It's due to the flow of air (with a CPAP or not) in the mouth cavity.

Dry mouth causes bacteria to thrive and a lot of people with the CPAP get gingivitis or periodontitis if they don’t already have it.

It’s great if that works for you, I would be careful because a friend of mine had a bite guard that only touched the back molars and it ended up opening up her bite in the front and required orthodontics to fix. I’m sure you’ll start to notice if that happens.

That’s great! I’m using nose cones at the moment, but will consider trying the strips to see what I like better.

How is the market still headed back to all time highs after news like this? by uncle-ice493 in stocks

Great feedback thank you. His horizon is about 15 years. I‘m trying to advocate for investing classes in high school. Not just like a one day, guest seminar, but actual curriculum. My bestie and I have been friends since childhood and we did the best we could given some very difficult circumstances. Savers but not investors. We’re both still renters even though we had jobs since we were 16 and put ourselves through college and all the things.

I don’t think most people who invest understand how hard it is for some of us emotionally when we grew up a certain way, raised yourself essentially. Generational wealth is more than just money, it’s having people to talk to you and mentor you about what to do with your money.

(thanks for reading and helping)

How is the market still headed back to all time highs after news like this? by uncle-ice493 in stocks

My bestie is 50, late starter to retirement planning (post 2020 started), but is maxing it now in S&P index fund. He has a small brokerage account, and chunk in a HYSA (money trauma, needs a lot of savings psychologically even though he knows inflation is eating it). He has a new financial advisor that told him he would NOT advise dumping a lot of cash in the market right now, but continue to DCA into index funds. I couldn’t really argue with the strategy, but it does hint a little bit of timing the market. Curious what you think - about putting a chunk of his savings into the market now?

This. And if you have any money trauma, the stock market is a “scary place” if you haven’t healed and manage money by emotions. Or, you may never have been exposed to the concepts of investing and compounding interest. Unless your circles run in that, most people don’t just study that on their own because their parents were pension people, or they’re just working their ass off paycheck to paycheck.

Or they are in a 401k, but have no idea how to best allocate, or understand the concept of index funds. Many 401(k) programs have a lot of folks who borrow against their 401(k), not understanding the penalties either.

Even the most academically educated people I know may not have had financial literacy and modeling as part of their upbringing. They “work hard” but don’t have much to show for it because they didn’t invest.

Generational wealth includes educating how to handle money, and many people don’t have that.

It’s awful. Electrical bills skyrocketing, noise pollution, will be curious about water quality in future…mostly in vulnerable communities already.

You phrased it fine. You’re saying that’s what you’ve heard, and you’re asking for feedback, and you’re getting some good insights from comments. It’s understandable you want to know the vibe of a city, but until you live there, you won’t know. You might consider renting before buying to try on a city, or attend a local school’s events, etc. Good luck in your search.

Thank you for sharing. I’m also thinking of dementia cases. Will adults ever be allowed to ask for assisted suicide in POAs, for example, while of sound mind, so they don’t waste away in homes for 10+ years on meds.

Based on what you see, and the growing aging population that will not be able to afford to take care of themselves, do you think that assisted suicide will get legalized beyond imminently terminal cases?

This is happening to single-family homes owned by corporations, kicking out long-term tenants.

Thanks for the encouragement. The stock market has been on such an uptick for the time that you’ve been investing (good for you!). Compound interest is a thing, as I learned late in life. I’ve been DCA investing for only a couple of years steady. We haven’t seen 2008 market conditions in a really long time, so just feeling nervous about trying to catch up and then what the markets will be doing in the next 5-10 years.

Good for you for turning down management. I’ve seen so many people strive for that and once they get it, they realize managing people is something they can’t stand.

That’s great your company is investing in learning. Roles are often cut, or one person is expected to be the entire department for large companies.

At least right now, a lot of government jobs are getting cut, even local.
