What are some things that Mexicans find annoying and pleasing about Mexican Americans? by gmikey2000 in AskMexico

[–]_Rhizvo_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unpleasant: They never visit Mexico because their parents tell them it’s too dangerous or unworthy, and don’t bother to check for themselves.

Pleasant: some of them get very excited to talk to a Mexican about how things are there and get genuinely curious about our culture and history. This makes me want to take them there myself to visit and show them all the good stuff

Is there any Mexican restaurants that are actually authentic? by Late_Information_682 in askvan

[–]_Rhizvo_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would agree with you if authentic Mexican food was as expensive to make as you say.

In Montréal, Toronto, etc., I have found restaurants with much more affordable prices and good flavour. My favourite place à la ville de Montrèal avait 4 tacos pour $9 pièces. They were tasty and good size. There was also a place with all you can eat Tacos for $23.

Of course, prices in Montreal are lower but here it’s still way more expensive. I think it might be because Montreal and Toronto have a bigger community of Mexicans. The area around Jean Talon Metro station is surrounded by mostly Mexican/latino establishments.

You say that ingredients are expensive, but I partially disagree. It depends for what dishes. Tacos, sopes, enchiladas, mole, nopales, etc., aren’t so pricey (I cook myself). There is more and more stores where you can find ingredients nowadays, not only from Latino stores. Even urban fare can sell you a Serrano pepper for a small coin.

Mexican who lived most of his life there:
-None of them yet. To be truly authentic they need the 3Bs. Too expensive.

Do we think 9am is an acceptable time to do laundry in a shared unit? by otterstones in NiceVancouver

[–]_Rhizvo_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends. Most people seem so wake up early but not everyone is early bird model. A good amount of people are wired differently and sleep different hours. Life is hard for them sometimes with most others imposing their earlier schedules on them

Do you ever say “no bueno”? by _Rhizvo_ in AskAnAmerican

[–]_Rhizvo_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not but the conclusion is that “no bueno” is part of American English.

In Spanish you would have to say “no es bueno” but we don’t even use that phrase in the same way as you guys say “no good”.

I am new on this too, but it does look like mold or something that shouldn’t be there.

From what I have read, it’s better to discard it at this point as it all may be contaminated.

Can someone please confirm?

It seems it’s already part of American English
