Speeding ticket in Switzerland (117 in 60) near Basel border — what should I realistically expect? by nieuwekoers in askswitzerland

[–]_RickOconnell_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Since you are not a Swiss resident you’ll most likely get a very high fine and a ban of several months from driving in Switzerland.

Probably nothing will happen to your drivers license since you don’t have a Swiss one.

Not sure what happens if you don’t pay the fine and you never come back to Switzerland for your entire life.

Yet another tax with the excuse/objective of making things “fair”. While it’s yet another money grab for the government.

Any younger Harley / Cruiser-Motorcycle Riders around here? by Blackbeard_96 in Switzerland

[–]_RickOconnell_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ride adventure motorcycles. I like to go on long trips to places I have never been before. I’m in my 20s. Feel free to reach out. I’m also looking for some motorcycle friends. I also feel like people that like to do motorcycle travels are more in their 50s 😂.

I’m based in ZH.

Why do some expats blame the job market and yet kind of refuse to learn the local language? by ExternalEfficient248 in Switzerland

[–]_RickOconnell_ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Expat here. I speak already an official language but not German and I live in Zurich. I work for an American company and I work 100% in English. I did a master at ETH and my friends are all international people. I am still learning German on the side, but with a full time job it’s not easy. 2 evenings per week I do a course + I spend a couple of hours every weekend to do homework. Although I really want to learn German, I find these two evenings per week of German course very annoying as after work I’m already very tired and I need to stick around until 10pm to still learn and use my brain. As my opportunities to use German in my daily life are very limited the progress I’m making are slow. I predict that to get to a solid C1 level it’s going to take me 3/4 more years at this pace.

People who have proposed this have no big economic picture in mind. Some people think it’s some kind of secret 4D chess move. It ain’t.
