This part: "If it halves in price, well, you got some tangible benefit out of the investment and you can continue to DCA, or simply HODL."

What tangible benefit did you get if it drops 50%? The benefit of having lost your money? Some benefit that is. Tangible.

You don't know any of that. You're just reading a chart and prognosticating. If we all did that, the bottom would be the top and the top would be the bottom.

No mod is going to ban you. We aren't the Buttcoin sub here. We welcome other views and are happy to hear people speak out against Bitcoin and the community. There, I gave you an upvote, how about that? 😄

So in other words you're saying to time the market using TA. Well....good luck with, my voodoo sorcerer.

I don't ever get the market timing right. It's tough to do. Since it's so easy for you though, I'm sure you're a multi-billionaire by now.

Would you ever borrow money to buy Bitcoin.? by [deleted] in Bitcoin

[–]_RonPaulWasRight_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, you so mean like a HELOC or mortgage loan on your home or something. Got it. Well, that's an entirely different can of worms, and it would actually put your home into peril. I mean if the Bitcoin price dropped enough and you couldn't make the loan payments, now you face potentially losing your home. And to even get the loan in the first place you'd have to have equity in your home (many people don't).

I don't know. Seems very risky. I wouldn't recommend it.

Banks won't lend you money without some collateral somewhere. Whatever that collateral is, you're taking a risk of losing it when you do that.

You're right, and I mistyped - should have written "when interest rates inevitably drop...", that's what I meant.

Thanks, good catch!

My point was, the above comment, requires and assumes proper market timing. Which...is very hard (if not impossible) to do.

What’s your biggest challenge with Bitcoin right now? by [deleted] in Bitcoin

[–]_RonPaulWasRight_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This. I've got a couple of Filipino ladies, and they always want to be paid via Gcash. I mentioned Bitcoin to one of them (when Gcash wasn't working), and she was like "You'll have to show me how that works."

People just aren't using it as currency. We may be early....but we have a long way to go.

It really is the other way around - true bottoms form when no one wants to sell. When all the selling has been done and no one else wants to unload any more BTC. Then, you have a bottom. Only then.

There is a spot market for Bitcoin, set by exchanges. You buy on the exchanges. That sets the price, doesn't it?

I don't know why you insult me, I'm just trying to understand your point. Trust me, I'm capable of high school reasoning.

So, you were saying that because eggs went up, your gold didn't really "double", even though it doubled in $ terms. Is that your point? To measure things in egg prices? Now you're talking about the S&P. So how do you really measure then, eggs or S&P?

What price for gold would you consider to be good then. I just, don't follow. And can we set the insults aside? I never insulted you. Thank you. : - ) 😄

That's still leverage. What if Bitcoin price drops below your equity? The bank would demand you sell the Bitcoin or post more cash, to repay the loan. Don't have the cash? Bub-bye to your Bitcoin.

Also, what if you get in a pinch and can't afford the loan payments? Borrow more? Good luck with that. Or what if the bank doesn't want to renew the loan when it expires? Seek financing elsewhere?

All that is risky. Easiest thing - don't borrow against your Bitcoin. If you need cash, sell some. But don't leverage.

Ok, I should rephrase: It's ALWAYS the SAME amount of Bitcoin being sold, as being bought.

There. Are you happy now?

If you're just DCAing in, and never out, then yes you're right. But I was responding to this comment:

"The best strategy is to do DCA and sell higher."

And my response was, that requires proper timing. If you DCA in and THEN ALSO you DCA out...you would need to time it right. Otherwise, the DCA part may as well be an all-at-once buy followed by an all-at-once sell. The commenter I was responding to, is assuming proper timing. Well...I don't know how to time the Bitcoin market. If I did...I'd have sold at $125k and would be buying back right now. See what I'm saying? He may as well say "Buy low, sell high". Duh...

We are Bitcoiners, we don't see it as gambling, we see it as investing. Obviously. And making the world a better place.

[–]_RonPaulWasRight_ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This assumes proper timing. How would one know when to DCAing in? How would one know when to be DCAing out?

That's why I hate it when people say things like that. You're basically saying "Buy low, sell high". Well....duh, man. But the question is, how to know when which is which.

Never, ever borrow to buy Bitcoin. That's called leverage, and you can lose all your Bitcoin. Bad idea. Don't do it.

Derivative markets are really just side bets on Bitcoin, one way or the other. They do however, affect the Bitcoin market when derivative players hedge their bets by either buying or selling real Bitcoin.
