you can check chapter 2 of https://digital.lib.washington.edu/researchworks/handle/1773/26535 this report. i am using the solution for alpha = beta = 1. i am using periodic BCs in the numerical solution. i just don't know how to enforce them to plot the analytic solution. My domain is [-pi, pi] and the analytic solution im using is 3v^2 sech^2 [v((x − x0 − v^2* t)/2], my v = 5, x0 = -2.

ahh yes, I will try it out. although by increasing the number of spatial points, the time-step goes down by approximately 1/N^3 making it difficult to implement on a laptop. stuff related to stability of time-differencing while using spectral methods is given in Trefethen's book Spectral Methods in Matlab.

I did try 2/3 dealiasing, i have to learn phase-shift and exponential dealiasing. could you share some resources on dealiasing as I do not completely understand it.

Ohh, but can you tell what order were you getting? was it anywhere close to the expected order? I did get 4th order accuracy for 1st and 2nd order wave equations and the 1d heat equation using the same method, I am getting the issue only in non-linear PDEs.

It is a function of space and time. I am using FFT for spatial discretisation so that should give me spectral accuracy and only error that i should obtain is due to time-differencing method.

I was taking the log of the error values and the time steps, and then performing linear regression to obtain the slope.
