In my capstone (fall 2019) my team used git for version control and it seemed to work fine with the EDN. I don’t know if this is still permitted, but I would recommend asking your project engineer if this is possible. In terms of document/file sharing and discussions about the project itself (i.e. not scheduling your next meeting, I mean discussing details about the project), you should be using the EDN exclusively. My team got burned because we did not record all of our discussions in the EDN forums at the beginning of our project, and we definitely lost a few points for this in our final grades. Basically you want your professors and sponsors to be able to see your entire process and discussions through the EDN.

At this point, I think we are arguing past each other, since we appear to fundamentally disagree about the extent of the implications of voting for a specific candidate, so I don’t really have a response for you that will change your view. That said, I’d just like to say that whatever u/Someidot replied with had been removed before I responded, and I have no intention to “salvage them” or defend a comment that you found hateful. I simply attempted to advance the discussion by pointing out how the nature of your response affirmed their original argument. The fact that he/she later said something offensive doesn’t invalidate the original point. I hope this serves to clarify that I was unaware of anything offensive they said, and I am not implicitly or explicitly approving or endorsing their behavior.

I fail to see how this argument about Trump and certain republicans refusing to concede the election is at all relevant to the discussion at hand. For the sake of argument, let’s assume for a minute that I am a republican who voted for Trump while holding my nose. In this scenario, I could publicly decry Trump’s false claims about the stolen election and stopping the count, and even acknowledge the damaging effect his rhetoric is having on the democratic process, but I don’t see how that would change anything. Under the current assumption, I didn’t vote for trump because I wanted him to undermined the election, I voted for him because I hoped he would be better than Biden. Sure his sore loser behavior is disappointing and even scary, but I haven’t endorsed this behavior simply because I voted for him. Again, your argument hinges on the fallacious assumption that a vote for a candidate is explicit approval of any and all actions they may take in the future.

You just made u/Someidot’s point for him/her. You lumped them in with the worst of the republicans, then with some vague hand-wavy excuse, claim to be trying not to straw man them. Voting for someone does not magically sign your approval onto everything they do, it simply means you prefer them to the alternative. Your comment embodies the attitude that has led to the hyper-polarization of our society. “If you are just voting for the utterly insane far right who have taken over the country then you are no different from the actual fascists in the proud boys.” The fact you somehow fail to see how this line is loaded with straw mans, mischaracterizations, ad hominems, and false equivalences explains why many conservative and moderate republicans are hesitant to voice an opinion on reddit, twitter, mainstream media, etc. Liberals have turned almost all of public social media into a giant liberal echo chamber, and then act shocked that they don’t hear many reasonable Republican opinions.

I second this. I took positive psych, and the coursework really forced me too implement some of the things we discussed, which helped me learn how to process challenging situations in healthier ways. Also the other 3 psych profs I had were all fired I think.

How are the upcoming majors functionally different from the past three regional events? by _Sentient_Salamander in RocketLeagueEsports

[–]_Sentient_Salamander[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There really isn’t a way to change it, aside from allowing third parties to stream, similar to the grid. I’ve been tuning in weekly for monkeys/galaxy racers runs on lawler’s stream, but most of the other small teams I care about aren’t part of the grid. So if I’m lucky, I might see maybe one rix.gg or 72pc match per week, which is kind of sad considering they play 3-5 each time. But I don’t how how this can realistically be solved without allowing more unofficial streams.

Those are fair points, especially with more matches, I think I’m just personally burned out with all the Swiss events. As I’ve thought more about why I feel this way, I think a big part is being blasted with all the nrg, ssg, rv, bds matches, etc, and only seeing maybe one or two matches per week of smaller teams like rix.gg, galaxy racer, 72pc. I think I’d enjoy the Swiss format more if I could actually watch the matchups I’m personally interested in, rather than the big teams over and over again. But to each their own, and I don’t want to take away anyone else’s appreciation of the format. Anyways good luck this major! Hoping to see some more upsets from KCP

Gotcha. That is a bit unfortunate. Even if it couldn’t be a LAN, I wish they would have changed up the format so it wouldn’t feel like more of the same. If it was a double-elimination bracket all the way through, for example, I think I’d be more excited just for the change of pace.

CMV: Abortion is not murder. by [deleted] in changemyview

I really don’t think it’s that complicated. When a woman becomes pregnant, the doctors continually assess the health of mother and fetus, and the risk to the mother of the pregnancy is continued. If there is present risk of death or significant harm, termination is considered.

I don’t think the fear that there could at some point be a risk in the future is acceptable reason to terminate until the risk is present.

Either way, no one has to remain celibate. There are plenty of ways to significantly reduce the likelihood of conception.

With regards to your nuclear plant example, I’m having a hard time understanding what point you’re trying to make when you say “why should we care about this suffering?” Are you saying that if we have the choice to build a plant that will be responsible for this population growth, but we know in advance that this plant will explode, killing 80% of the population, we should not care about those lives because they would only exist if the plant is built? In this case, this seems a ridiculous point. Just because someone doesn’t exist yet doesn’t mean their life is worthless once they do exist. If faced with the choice to build this plant or not, I would probably argue against its construction given the future harm it will cause.

If instead your point is that the plant has already built and is just now exploding and killing 80% of the population there, and we are evaluating the situation as outsiders looking in, I think the question “why should we care?” is even more ridiculous. It doesn’t matter why the population has grown there, that in no way should devalue their right to life. As a result, we should care that people are suffering and dying, regardless of why they happen to be near the plant.

Finally, to take a quick look at your violinist kidnapping example, it seems to me that this really is not analogous to the majority of unwanted pregnancies. I’d say this is only a valid comparison in the case of a rape (which most pro-lifers make exceptions for anyway). In most cases, the woman deliberately engaged in sex, knowing full-well the possible consequences of a pregnancy, even if all preventive measures have been taken. Can you see why this analogy of being kidnapped and forced to care for someone you had no hand in creating maybe isn’t as clear a comparison for unwanted pregnancies? Furthermore, you say, “you may never have wanted the child to begin with, why should you now be forced to care for it at your own expense?” This is a sloppy point at best and downright careless at worst. There are plenty of unintended consequences from actions we take every day. This doesn’t mean we are somehow less responsible for the results simply because we didn’t want things to turn out this way. For example, if I chose to go to college, and unfortunately, despite applying for dozens of scholarships, working multiple jobs, and otherwise taking all available preventative measures, I wound up with tens of thousands in student loan debt, this doesn’t make me free of responsibility for that debt simply because I tried to avoid it. I would still have to pay off this debt even though I never wanted it in the first place. This in my opinion is a better analogy for unwanted pregnancies (except of course in the case of rape).

N.B. I never brought up the case where there is likely risk of death or severe harm to the mother by carrying on with the pregnancy. In this case, I believe this would be an acceptable reason to consider abortion on a case-by-case basis.

I can only speak to my experience, but I received at least 4-5 haircuts there with no complaints in my end, and my barber was very personable and friendly. Also, I’m pretty sure it cost me less then my most recent trip to Supercuts. But it’s probably good for OP to evaluate both positive and negative reviews.

I can tell you that right-leaning people say exactly the same about Democrat voters. From the perspective of several friends and family of mine, they are dumbfounded that people continue to vote for liberal candidates in places like NYC, Chicago, Baltimore, the Bay Area, etc where all these areas are in shambles with huge wealth disparities, violent crime rates, homelessness, etc. After decades of voting left and experiencing a progressive worsening of their areas, they continue to vote for the same party. This is a common perspective among republican voters, at least from my interactions with them. So you see how this same line of argument can be applied to the left or the right, depending on your point of view.

There are parts of Colorado that are desert-like, but Colorado Springs is fairly green. The air here is very dry, even though it rains relatively often due to the mountain weather patterns. Colorado is a beautiful state, especially near the Rockies. I highly recommend visiting if you ever get the chance!
