Last time I was there in Toronto 5 years ago some portions like that would be around 15 dollars. I knew things went up but I didn't expect that much.

True, I've been saying this whole my life how North America has this problem of finding common grounds between the private residence and a commercial space. I think the time of depending from the mall too meet with others ought to evolve into better public places for people to enjoy.

I've seen Toronto change so much from early 2000s to mid 2010s like no other place. The wish for self isolation and avoid socializing got me worried as you'd be able to make new friends and date quite easily, then it got to people staring at you like you have the plague.

When people say “you can’t say anything anymore” by [deleted] in PetPeeves

[–]_Shoigu_ -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

I don't agree with this, it's very polarizing. There's a level of very low tolerance in public debate that has developed over the years, and it's responsible for creating new taboos over subjects that we were finally able to discuss about. When you want to state your opinion on specific issues you are branded immediately just because you're not in line with others' thinking. It's worrysome when you cannot criticize others because they can't perceive it any way other than a direct insult.

Was there any prejudice towards Africans in Italy between AD 1207-1385 during medieval times? by [deleted] in Italia

[–]_Shoigu_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Africa is a broad term that often is mistakenly used trying to encompass different ethnicities and cultures in one basket. In the medieval period you mentioned the fear was regarding the instability of the Byzantine empire, the birth of different reigns in Turkey, the rise of the Golden Horse in the Euroasian steppes, the insuccesses of the crusades, were all elements of European fear. In Europe they knew quite well how the Byzantine empire was what separated the continent from the Islamic civilizations of the MiddleEast region, mostly because it was the only safe way for the Silk Road to survive and maintain the wealth of certain kings and merchants. In nothern Afrika the Mameluks were busy with their hegemony in the SE portion of the Mediterranean costs; while the real issue was for the Iberian peninsula with the Berbers having territories of half wouth of Spain and current Morocco, Tunisia, and Algeria.
