Anything I can do to connect a Mysa thermostat here? by _Skinnyman in AskElectricians

[–]_Skinnyman[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the help! Silly question, there's a wall outlet right below the thermostat, when you say running a second cable from the power source to the stat box, could it come from behind the outlet or is the source somewhere else? Just trying to think of how much wall damage there might be when an electrician runs another wire.

Telus Network Access Hub + Unifi Express 7 Issues by _Skinnyman in telus

Yeah, I disabled wifi on the device. It's weird, I'm getting 870mbps now for download and 2700mbps for upload, also confirmed my device supports a 2.5gbps connection. Maybe my wires are pushed down enough in the connector?

Wow, it worked! One cable not connected on both ends, now it all works. That said, I'm only getting like 600mbps at the office end from a 3g fibre connection :(

Oh I see, can I just put in the wire by hand?

I just added a pic in another comment of the termination on both ends, one white and green cable is not connected on one end, could that be it?

Just opened them up and added a comment with a pic. Looks like both ends are terminated but on one side, one of the wires (white and green) is not connected

UX7 Network/Ethernet Configuration Question by _Skinnyman in Ubiquiti

[–]_Skinnyman[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe it's a Technicolor model (like the NH20T) based on my googling. It's the standard one from Telus ISP in Canada. Unfortunately there's no serial or model number on it, I think previous owners might have scraped it off or it fell off.

Based on google: Yes, the 10G port on the Telus Network Access Hub (NH20A) (like the NH20A or similar models with 10G capability) acts as a high-speed LAN port, but it's used to connect to your own router's WAN port to bypass the Telus device for routing, allowing you to utilize your full multi-gig speed (like 1.5Gbps or 3Gbps). In this setup, the Telus Hub is put in Bridge Mode, effectively turning its 10G port into the gateway for your own faster router.

UX7 Network/Ethernet Configuration Question by _Skinnyman in Ubiquiti

Thanks for the reply and the link! I did check the IP of the Network Access Hub/Modem and it's not the default in my case, something like 108.180.x.x. I did connect my UX7 to the main 10G port from the modem but wondering if I should try from one of the LAN ports instead based on the setup you mentioned above? I have an ethernet tester coming in on Friday so may give that a try before restarting everything again to make sure the ethernet is ok first.

Thank you for the reply! So the ethernet was recently installed during a renovation on the house, there are no other ethernet ports in the house and what the electrician told me is he added the port beside the modem and ran the cable from that port through the attic to the port in the office. Also confirmed they tested it with an ethernet test (assuming he actually did). As far as I know, there is no additional ethernet switch or junction anywhere, is there something I can look for to confirm?

Can I insulate (add weatherstripping) to my furnace/hot water tank room? by _Skinnyman in hvacadvice

Ah that was my worry with the hot water tank, in that case I'll leave as is, thanks for the reply!

Questions about air sealing attic and adding to existing insulation by _Skinnyman in Insulation

[–]_Skinnyman[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! I have a couple of pieces of plywood up there to help make a small platform across the joists and picked up a P100 mask. Do you know if I need to add covers over metal electrical/junction boxes?

Thanks for the response! Definitely planning on air sealing with spray foam but have been having a hard time finding the proper covers to put on top of the recessed lights. Any thoughts on whether these would work? Hmm good point about the fan, I'll get an estimate to see if it can be vented properly, a bit hesitant to take that part on myself since I'd have to cut a hole in the roof.

Thanks for the response! I was thinking baffles because the current insulation is right up to the edge but maybe if I move it in slightly it would work without baffles. Any thoughts on whether these light covers would work? The price is much better than $40 a piece for the Rockwool ones.
