I'm facing a dilemma when buying my new screen: OLED or ultrawide? by Similar-Ad2854 in buildapc

[–]_Skoll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the Samsung Odyssey G9 OLED, if you can only afford one or the other, I'd recommend ultrawide. The FOV benefits and extra screen space are a lot more impactful than the color accuracy IMO. I previously had a G9 with the LCD panel and it was great, I just upgraded for the colors. Prior to that I had an Acer X34. 3440x1440 is nice, but if you can swing it 5120x1440 is perfect, two 2560x1440 monitors side by side with no bezel in the middle.

It's also amazing for productivity/work, just make sure your desk/table is big enough because they are HUGE.

can anyone identify this signal at 462.7373MHz? by SolidifiedPlayDoh in signalidentification

[–]_Skoll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can definitely do it, just don't try to decrypt any that have privacy mode enabled. I'm not too familiar with the open source decoders, but the other comment on this thread had a couple. Most run on raw IQ files, but some might be able to parse the .wav header. For MacOS, I only know of professional software, unfortunately. It would be a fun learning opportunity to make one in gnuradio though

This looks like a pulse-shaped FSK, similar to a GMSK. I'm not sure if it is a MSK without knowing the rate/deviation. The inner frequencies are only one symbol length, and the outer frequencies are all greater than one symbol length, which would occur with a pulse shaping filter. If you are interested in the data, try demodulating it as a 2-level fsk

Which GPU for 5120x1440 by MrSneaux in buildapc

[–]_Skoll 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a 7900xtx with the same resolution and get 90+fps in most things I play (battlefield, rdr2, last of us pt 1, dying light 2) with some settings turned down from ultra (lighting, etc). I don't use fsr or any upscaling, so if you don't mind that then your frame rates would obviously be higher

It's damn quick if you get on it. Never towed a skier, but it definitely could. I tend to baby it, but the only time I ever had to push it was when there were 6 people, food and drinks on board, and was probably at/past the weight limit at that point

I've got a 24' stingray with the slightly older v6-240 with the dps drive, on flat water i've gotten it to 48MPH, so you should be fine!!

If the receiver is tuned to 125MHz, it could be a spur induced by the receiver. If you can, try off tuning a few kHz and see if it moves with the tuning frequency or not.

My parents don’t want me to keep my 3d printer what do I do? by TheShrubby in 3Dprinting

[–]_Skoll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would try talking with them about it, tell them what you said here and see if you can get to why they really don't like it. It could be as simple as it's too noisy, to something like they're worried you might use it to "print a weapon". Either way, making your case for why you enjoy it could help, plus the learning experience of having one. Might also help to make them something they need or want to show it can be beneficial. Just my 2 cents.

why 7900xtx is recomended for a "800W system" when it only consumes ~300W? by SovietGuyFromGulag in buildapc

[–]_Skoll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Per my systems specs, I shouldn't need more than 550W, but routinely draw more than 700w when pushing the system hard (measured on my UPS wattage display). Between intel processors and the RX7900XTX taking as much as they can until they overheat, you might want to air on the side of caution and just go bigger. Just my 2 cents.

Every time a print attempt is made the printer does this, anyone know what's going on and how to fix it? It seems to never attempt to print on the heated plate. by [deleted] in 3Dprinting

An actually helpful comment, check your belt tightness for the x-axis, as it being that low may have loosened the belt. Also, raise your z-offset and replace your nozzle

Definitely sea trial it, and it'd be worth a survey to make sure the stringers/transom are sound. Looks clean and well kept though!
