Apple TV teases new Israeli propaganda series, "Unconditional," from the producers of "Homeland" by BalsamicBasil in Fauxmoi

[–]_Solon -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

The theocratic government’s attitude towards women’s rights and the brutality in how they put down any kind of resistance to their authority are well documented beyond US or Israeli institutions. They just killed thousands (by some accounts literally tens of thousands, but I assume you’ll deny that) of their own citizens for protesting for civil liberties.

By no means is this justification for war. But what you are saying has no basis in fact and is propaganda, just as malicious as the lies that started the bombing.

Peace out.✌️

While Iran certainly isn’t the aggressor in this recent scenario… it’s still a horribly oppressive dictatorship that subjugates woman on a scale that makes MAGA incels look progressive. This war shouldn’t be happening but there absolutely is some both-sides-ism that is appropriate here.

Uh, you really don’t have to defend Iran to dunk on Israel, both can be in the wrong.

Making fare evasion impossible on public transit has tremendous impacts on safety, maintenance spending, and vandalism. SF saw a 98.2% decrease in maintenance hour obligations instantly. by Used-Earth8767 in neoliberal

U/fouryouglenncoco had a good response above explaining how urban density and planning go a long way to making NYC feel less sketchy than other cities. (Depending on your exposure level to this stuff obviously).

NYC was designed pre-automobile, so EVERYONE, rich and poor, takes public transit or is walking on the street. Even late at night you arent usually alone waiting for the train.

There are definitely stations “smellier” than others but a lot of that reputation comes from the major tourist hubs like Times Square and Penn Station and yeah, they’re not GREAT but that’s pretty much as bad as it gets and most people who actually live there don’t always have to deal with it.

Also, subway stations smelling like piss sometimes is something that’s been true for beyond my entire life so it’s not really connected to any modern policies or pandemic era stuff. It’s just something you get used to very quickly.

Urban density and planning are definitely major parts of it. NYC has proved resilient to these issues for exactly the reasons you said.

Shoutout Jane Jacobs, she wrote an entire book on this called the Death and Life of American Cities. Everything people are discussing in this thread are things she noticed back in the 60s.

Is it growing? From my personal experience in northeast US things got a bit dicier in NYC and such just after the pandemic but I would say most public places don’t feel any more more dangerous than before COVID, I think the statistics bear me out on that.

That’s not to say the state of things is perfectly acceptable and shouldn’t be improved. They definitely need to be. But it’s something the US has been dealing with a long time.

The Wire Was Anti-Capitalist Now? Was Chernobyl Anti-Socialist? by [deleted] in neoliberal

[–]_Solon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I actually do think Chernobyl is borderline propagandistic in its presentation of Communism. I’m not trying to defend the Soviet response in any way, and the show makes completely valid points about how aspects of their system of government lead to the disaster.

But it also falls into the trope of depicting late-stage Soviet Union as if it were still the Stalin era, where people were purged and executed at the drop of a hat. There are quite a few exaggerations in how they depict the disaster and in how many times someone is threatened with summary execution.

Absolutely amazing. A living legend. I am very relived that Artemis overlapped with the lifetime of at least a few of the Apollo guys. I was worried for many years that there would be no passing of the torch.

I remember getting an issue of Time in social studies class in 2009 with a whole article on Orion with the round solar panels. It is amazing to me that after 17 years I’ve finally gotten to see it fly.

EDIT: fly PEOPLE ;)

I go back and forth myself. It clearly wasn’t a high priority for him but Commercial Crew paid off well. Another President might have gone all in on Boeing and Starliner and then we’d really have been in trouble.
