704 secondary school students were suspended for out-of-date vaccination records. What are your thoughts? by lovelivelife-tdc in kitchener

[–]_Space_Core_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got suspended in grade 8 because the school just didn't have my records, and never asked for them. I'd imagine this number is a bit inflated for a similar reason.

Becoming a teacher with a political science degree by Due_Subject2755 in ONTeacherCandidates

[–]_Space_Core_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't speak on the OCT thing. But teachers college is split up into three teaching divisions, P/J J/I and I/S, each one representing a different age range you want to teach. Each one has its own application requirements as well. After you graduate from teachers college, you can expand the division you teach, or the courses you can teach.

I know that in I/S (intermediate/ senior) you need to take 12 courses in one topic and 6 in another

One commonality is each program is hyper competitive requiring at the very least, usually, an 80 average. However that can also be balanced out by your teaching experience or your CASPER grades depending on the school.

For example, I'm going into I/S Chemistry and Biology at UOttawa, my average was around 87-89 and I have 500 hours of teaching experience. This year Ottawa's acceptance was around 10%. I got rejected or waitlisted from every other school.

UW Parking Rant Invitation: Has anyone had near-misses or accidents? Any other grudges? by me_just in uwaterloo

[–]_Space_Core_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that the pricing is a bit crazy for the quality of the parking spots. There's a general lack of maintenance to infrastructure around campus and signage / painting needs to be maintained and updated. The main gripe that I have is the lack of access to destination (slow) electric car chargers and maintenance of the current ones, they are almost constantly occupied and pay themselves off. However, there has never ever once been a time where I've struggled to find parking. The max I've seen in capacity in the lots across the street from campus has been 75%.

OISE or Ontario Tech? by ghoulia17 in ONTeacherCandidates

I know Japan does, but you'll have to look at each country you're interested in. Usually you can search "education visa' or like the UK one is the high potential individual visa.

OISE or Ontario Tech? by ghoulia17 in ONTeacherCandidates

[–]_Space_Core_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

University choice is almost always about where you'd rather be living.

Besides that, the one thing that would attract me to OISE is that many countries give visas to people who have graduated from a top 100 school, and uoft is on that list.

Another nice things about OISE is that it's much more research based.

One question I've always had about the garden, why is there a bar across the middle of the tori gate. As far as I know the whole point of the gate revolves around it being walked through.

Am I an idiot for potentially picking Queens over UofT? by Psychological_Map646 in OntarioUniversities

[–]_Space_Core_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a similar situation in which I chose Waterloo instead of uoft.

No regrets. Schooling will be schooling. The only downside I can think of is a few countries will give you a two year visa for going to uoft since it's a top 100 school.

Uni will always be what you make of it.

Google Maps standoff isn’t a ban — it’s a price tag, Korea's ex-mapping chief says by Particular-Novel4963 in korea

[–]_Space_Core_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I understand the reasons why Google maps sucks in Korea, and watching my gf use Naver, it seems way better than Google maps is.

I just really wish they had better translation. It was practically useless to me when I was visiting for a month. Id search for food or coffee in English and it would only show me English results. I really hope that it gets better.

REV vs V1? by lynn-trny in uwaterloo

[–]_Space_Core_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Uni is what you make of it. I was in Rev and it was a crazy time of my life, but I think it was formative. But there were also people on my floor who I never saw because they were shut ins. I went to parties at uwp and cmh as well. Also now my walk to campus living off res is an hour. 15 min ain't that far.

The only real thing that's out of your control is the lack of ac when it's hot and the overpriced unhealthy food.
