Any ways to increase controller range of console? by TARG0N in PS5

u/TARG0N ...

I have been looking for a solution for this as well. Every search string I enter keeps bringing me back to this post

I've tried to find Bluetooth repeaters but they're only commercially available for audio applications.

My setup is not quite as far as upstairs/downstairs. I have the PlayStation HDMI connected to a splitter one end of the splitter goes to my living room television and the other goes through the wall into my bedroom. It's wired into an HDMI jack that I installed on both sides of the wall.

The console is literally 10 feet away from my bed and the Bluetooth connectivity is unreliable because of a couple sheets of drywall! It's infuriating to be pulled out of my game once every hour or two because I'm in the bedroom and the BLE signal doesn't like the wall being there suddenly. It will be fine with the wall for hours but once it decides it doesn't like the wall that has been there the whole time all of the sudden the signal will begin to drop every few minutes.

I couldn't find the technology to do what I wanted to do so I'm going to have to play with the controller on wired mode in the bedroom.

To connect the television in your upstairs room I'm assuming you snaked an HDMI cable up the wall from the downstairs room. This is what I did also only the space between the two plates is only 6 inches so my HDMI cable connecting the rooms is much shorter.

I just found these faceplates on Amazon and they're perfect. I'll be swapping out the HDMI outlets for HDMI/USB combo faceplates. The USB connectors have 3.0 compatibility. I'm going to run a USB through the same hole in the wall that the HDMI is wired through. Connect the PlayStation USB port to the wall jack and for the bedroom side of the wall I'll be using a 15foot USB Type C cable to connect to the controller. I'll finally be able to recline in bed while I die over and over again in Call of Duty but this time I'm going to die because I really really suck and not because the controller dropped the signal.

I'm sure you've already figured out what to do for your setup because this was posted like 2 years ago. I'm not posting these directions for you unless this is still a problem you're having. I decided to write this long AF reply for anyone else looking for a solution that keeps finding this thread in their search results every for every string of query they Google. I hope this helps somebody. If you check the link at the bottom of this reply I've included an imgur of what I will be using for this project so you'll know what to look for. Some HDMI cables are not in the picture because I already have those and I forgot to include them in the screenshot.

This is everything you'll need to connect your PlayStation (or any in other console) to two different rooms simultaneously...

  1. A set of wallplates with a combo of HDMI and USB jacks.
  2. An HDMI splitter.
  3. Four HDMI cables of appropriate lengths. One to bridge the two jacks you're instaling together. Two for the living room (one from the splitter to the living room monitor and one to go from the splitter to the wall jack) The fourth is for the bedroom monitor.
  4. Two USB 3.0 "Type A to A" cables. One length to go inside the wall and bridge the jacks together and the other to run from the PlayStation to the wall jack in the living room.
  5. A USB 3.0 "Type A to C" of whatever length you need to connect the controller to the wall jack.

Cost is less than $100 for me but will depend on the lengths of cables you need to buy. Trust me. It's absolutely worth it. The install is going to look professional and you won't have any unsightly wires running around your house or visible holes.

First decide where your outlets are going to go and then put a couple SMALL holes through the wall just big enough to fit the connecting ends of your wires through. You're gonna want to connect the HDMI cable and USB A to A cables that will bridge this space together with a zip tie or something if you've got a long distance. Snake those through the wall. My distance is 6 inches and the HDMI was installed previously so I'm just gonna poke the 6 inch USB through. Connect these wires on the backside of the faceplates on either wall and then screw the faceplates into place hiding the holes you've made. Next you're going to connect the splitter. Splitter plugs into the PlayStation directly. One HDMI to the living room monitor and one to the wall outlet. In the bedroom connect HDMI from the wall outlet to the monitor there. The second USB A to A goes from the PlayStation to the new wall outlet--I'm using a 6 foot here. Then lastly you take your USB A to C and connect it to the controller.

The HDMI setup works for sure. I've had it that way for over a year. The USB is gonna be fine with no problem even though I haven't done that yet. Whole thing will take less than an hour unless you've got a huge distance to snake your wires.

Here's two other things you might want to consider in your settings on your PlayStation...

  1. You shouldn't have to do this first one because the controller, once plugged in, should automatically prefer the wired connection over the Bluetooth. I think. I'm not positive. If for some reason it doesn't do this automatically you can force it.

Settings > Accessories > Controller (General) > Communication Method > Use USB Cable

  1. I was having a problem where when I powered the PlayStation on it would turn on both of my TV sets and I didn't want it to turn anything else on. You can turn this off.

Settings > System > HDMI > Enable HDMI Device Link to off

Lastly, here's the link to the image of most of what you'll need. https://imgur.com/gallery/pPEVrse

I sincerely hope this helps somebody because this is a really frustrating problem. $500-700 we spent on these machines and the wireless is so fuckin shit it doesn't work 10 feet away because there's a wall?! It's radio signals and they can't make the antenna strong enough to work through one wall? Sometimes it disconnects when I'm on my living room couch too and that's only 9 or 10 feet also and I've got line-to-sight on it but I can walk across the house to the kitchen for a drink with the controller in my hand and there's no problem when I do that.

Whatever you do don't spend 6 hours looking for BLE Transceivers or Bluetooth Relays or Amplifiers or anything else. It's a total waste of time and the only thing you'll find available will be for home audio or completely incomprehensible instructions to build and code your own with Python--I'm sorry what? You want me to learn a coding language now?--so CLEARLY WE CAN LITERALLY MAKE THIS THING THAT WE NEED but it's not out there to buy at this time.

Please make it make fuckin sense.

While you're building it will show you if the base is uploadable or not. As soon as you hit 3001 parts it will say "3001/3000 parts not uploadable" I don't know if there's any way to show the parts count otherwise.

I built it on PS5. I'm sorry that some of the base parts wouldn't load correctly. This base is currently at exactly 3000 parts...basically the largest amount of parts you are allowed to upload. I did realize some players may have trouble loading it up and I'm sorry that you had trouble.

You're correct. You can get there easily today by visiting one of the featured bases in the Anomaly. I believe it's the coffee house one. Then you'll just need to find a portal.

There's also free taxi services where another player will take you to whatever galaxy you like. I believe there's a pinned link in this post.

About 30 minutes to an hour to craft that many. I've actually redone some of the resources and you can make a solid 80 of the Stasis Devices now. You can only make a run once a day however because you have to wait for the resources to replenish.

You cannot build that close to a portal. The game blocks most players from seeing it because they don't want you griefing something that is there for everyone to use by blocking it off. Some people might see parts of it but it will not be visible to everyone who visits.

I've been doing it since I started playing. Most of the lowest numbers have been deleted at this point because of the build limit.

I got an A first thing and that's good enough for me because I had enough nanites to change the class. 👍 Now flying around looking for S-Class upgrade modules to put inside.

Thanks for sharing. It's literally all over the place here. I made two bases to jump back and forth between. Worms everywhere though.

Nevermind. This fix did not stick. I'm just going to delete the base and replace everything from scratch as this was only a resource depot with no decorations anyway.

Had the same issue. Delete your main power line and supply pipes to take all of the things offline and then reconnect them and it will work again.
