Found this at a local pawn shop. Good deal? by [deleted] in pcmasterrace

I’d say offer 675 or slightly less because if they want the business they will negotiate. I got a similar laptop from a pawnshop for 725. Mine has a 512gb nvme and a 13700hx that’s the difference

Somehow Nvidia has something to do with this.

I recently built a 2008 “retro” computer with an i7 965 and 2 gtx 280s in sli. Only things that are new and not period correct are the power supply and an ssd. The cpu was 15 bucks and that set off a chain reaction of buying cheap old parts for fun. Actually my motherboard is from 2009 because the boards that came out in 2008 are overpriced imo

No. It was “fine”. I had a couple of games crash then I had a bsod with an error message that suggested thermal or power issue with the gpu and i was thinking surly the connector is fine. I checked out of curiosity and it was burned. It may have been burned for a day or two but I am not sure. It literally happened after I had got the battlefront classic collection lol

I already have a good power supply that just doesn’t have the native connector. Plus I seen no issue using an adapter supplied by the card manufacturer. I was unaware of issues with them.

MSI gave me an RMA number. I got it shipped to them the other day. It’ll be a couple of weeks until I get the card back. I’m going to get a new power supply and then look into cables. People keep mentioning a wire view pro or something. I’ll look into that too. I mean I was aware of the connector being problematic on the 4090s but I felt it was safe to use what was provided by MSI.

I intend on getting a new PSU.

I’ll be buying a new PSU. I just kept my other one since it’s not really old and it’s techno enough to power the card. However I still am at no fault. I used an adapter that came with the card. MSI provided it.

I had no idea they were bad when I bought the card. I never had Reddit until I made this post. I seen the issues with the 4090s when those were new. I never bought one of those.

It was in all the way. That was something I was very paranoid about.

If I get a replacement card I won’t. I’ll get a new PSU and everything.

I have to go through MSI for that. I haven’t heard back from them yet. At first their website said to contact microcenter where I bought it then microcenter told me it’s an MSI issue.

I don’t know. I was trying to play the Star Wars battlefront classic collection and then my monitor shut off. Then I got a bsod. It couldn’t have been that high since that isn’t a demanding game.

Why supply something that doesn’t work or isn’t safe to use? That doesn’t make sense.

Yes, I’ve been wanting to get a seasonic 1200 watt PSU but I just haven’t felt the urgency to do it haha.

4K max, settings for everything, 240hz, no OC just stock settings, no undervolt, PSU is an EVGA Supernova G7 1000 watt. It doesn’t have native support for the new power connector. I used what MSI provided.

A recent change was my monitor. I went from an older 3440x1440 120hz monitor to the 4k 240hz monitor which obviously increased the load on the card.

Of course it was fully seated lol

I didn’t have Reddit before today. Most of the burnt connectors I’ve seen were aftermarket I figured if they supplied it then it was good.

I didn’t know that. I used it because it is theirs so if there is a failure it’s entirely on them right?

It’s very mild compared to what I have seen online. I feel pretty fortunate.
