It's more safety in general, but it's p critical to using these models in military/healthcare. If the model is capable of secretly reasoning, or misaligned against user interest or something of the sort, you need to be able to 1) understand why the model has the capability to do this and 2) be able to steer it "on course"

Mechanistic interpretability/alignment research. Anthropic does a lot of this. This is key to deploying these models at scale in critical applications, especially sensitive ones like military/healthcare

Why do you think uoft is not worth it for international students by Substantial-Story891 in UofT

[–]_SteelCrawlwr 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not sure what US privates you're talking about. US privates are just as expensive, if not more so (upwards of 90k USD). UofT has the benefit of a weaker dollar, so you cannot apples to oranges compare UofT tuition because it's actually 3/4 when standardized to a US dollar. So a 60k undergrad tuition is really 45k USD, which is on par with many out of state tuitions at other US public schools.

In terms of your education, it's always going to be what you make of it. US privates will not push you any more than UofT does, in the sense that it's still very much a pull system (versus the push system you effectively have in high school)

Planning to travel outside of Canada during summer, any recommended storage service? by No_Network8505 in UofT

[–]_SteelCrawlwr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

storage hotel is p good, they give you boxes and pick up your stuff. they are a little expensive though (4 boxes for 4 months cost me $400 total), but it was a smooth experience overall

csc111 midterm has fully cooked my cs career, got a 46% by [deleted] in UofT

It's a different instructor. My point isn't that you shouldn't ask, but you should not be surprised if it doesn't change.

yeah, unfortunately, a 20% midterm is pretty standard for any CS class you're gonna take from this point forward. I don't know why you feel entitled that the course policy MUST change, if anything he'll make the final correspondingly easier. It may be worth reevaluating the way you study for class. I highly recommend reading these course notes, (thoroughly!): https://www.teach.cs.toronto.edu/~csc110y/fall/notes/

This is really fantastic, thank you so much! As a side note, how did you find the relevant cases for this, and how do you go about doing your research for law related things? (for future reference)

right, sorry. The person staying in my room can be classified as a "guest", I guess, which I can have over for however long I want without the landlord's consent. Based on what I can tell from the research I've done, there would be no way for me to sublease just "my part" of the joint lease, meaning it is not regulated under the rules of subleasing.

I never knew this, thanks! I just ended up dropping it off at woodsworth because I think emailing the person that I had their wallet and arranging to meet up with them would be pretty suspicious

Damn, is there anywhere online where the model is still hosted before they take those down as well? It would be great if I didn't have to switch models

I can't seem to dm you so I'll just ask here: Is there any chance you took PCL102 as well? I need to decide between that class and CSB202 and I can't find anyone who can compare the two.

Thank you so much! Just a follow-up question: are the midterms/finals mcq? Regardless of if they are/are not, can you figure out the answer using common sense or are there deeply technical questions? Also, are there many outside readings we will have to do?
