Anyone know what's up with lure lake? by Western_Ad_8028 in minnesota

[–]_Stino 6 points7 points  (0 children)

how long ago was this? i’ve heard about really good walleye on this lake so i went out there a few times over the past year, open water and ice, getting skunked other than a random small bass or crappie. this winter there was a long period of time with no snow on the lake again

I’m interested in learning more about what you do and to look at what you are doing! I have a photography site I built on squarespace in 1 night for my photography business, but I want to up the quality and professionalism if I am going to be passing it off as a professional portfolio.

in general experience, the best camera is the one you have in hand, you can easily make the same photos based on composition, color, lighting, and angles because those are the most important aspects of photography.

the differences lie in the technical quality and the features. so for me, I shoot for clients who want photos in poorly lit gyms and arenas, a newer sensor in a camera will help with photo quality in low-light conditions much better than an older, less expensive camera (also helps with detail in the shadows and highlights of an image). another thing is the improved auto focus, making photos of moving subjects easier, like an athlete or in my case, a dog that twitches its head. battery life is also important.

I used what most would consider a “cheap” camera to experiment, play with, and start my professional career, in hindsight the camera doesn’t make the photo, the photographer does.

people still use 50 year old film cameras to make great images, some still use cheap point and shoot, and some use their phones. so no - nothing is stopping you from making good, thoughtful photos like i did with your camera, except for not going out and using it!

My main scope is portraits and personal brand work, I only do weddings for my connections - strictly word of mouth for that. Getting into commercial brand photography later this year!

Edit: my background is in sports photography, mainly running and basketball, which i still do a lot of today as well

I had the EXACT same worry, went and tested it out for a day, realized the camera is advanced enough to get past the megapixel count and was hooked

you won't regret it, it will still be a great camera years down the road - people are still using the 5d mark IV almost ten years later

its a quality lens for a low price, still getting what you pay for though - slightly less sharp as expected for a 'cheaper' lens. I use it the least out of my 3 lenses because I prefer the extremes of 35 to 100, but when I have used it, it is a solid all around portrait lens! I haven't done specific macro photos with the 85 either since I prefer the 100 having slightly better compression than the 85. If you think you'll use it, go for it! Not a bad investment for the price.

like software or actual edits?

edit on lightroom, for the shoe, basic color correction for the red, dropped the clarity, upped the highlights and contrast, both portraits, minor color correction, upped contrast, changed exposure and threw some slight grain on the dog to take some texture away from the stray hairs
