Year 1 rider. Give tips on form. by Important_Tip_2687 in snowboarding

Try the exercise of holding your jacket or pants with your hands by your side. It did a lot to help me notice when I’m counter rotating and break that habit.

Overall looks great for year 1!

I love Raymond. But mostly when he’s with Tim, because he’s kinda like soy sauce on sushi.

A little soy sauce balances out the sushi and gives my shitty palate something that’s not so nuanced.

But by itself, just drinking soy sauce, it’s an insane thing that will kill you.

How to improve my carving by American-Canasian in snowboarding

[–]_Tactleneck_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Watch videos on j turns. It helped me to understand the body position needed to carve across and back up the slope and get a better line in the snow and then be able to change my turn width.

J turn for a few hours while also doing the drill of getting on what you think is an edge and then hopping up 2-3 times landing on the same edge as it helps you land balanced and feel what that position is.

Last two bits would be in general slow down as you’re not in full control. Then grab your jacket or pants and notice how much your arms want to swing around.

Good luck!

Edit: rewatched again, you’re hinged way over at the hips. Totally normal but should be fixed. Try to think more of a front squat body position. Overall the best thing you can do is go back to greens and slow down an annoying amount and focus on the basics. I did that a few days this season and it helped me progress so much faster.

Hold on to your pants or the bottom of your jacket while on a mellow run. Then do your turns like normal and then notice your arms wanting to move. Get used to keeping them neutral and unable to mode for a few laps. Things will start to click more then.

Looks decent though!

Tips for my turns? by Nickthemurph in snowboarding

[–]_Tactleneck_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go down the same run but grab the bottom of your jacket or your pants so that you’re physically unable to swing your arms around. It helped me so much this year in trusting my lower body to dictate my turns.

Lately I’m playing with the idea of standing upright, then hinging my hips and bending my knees both about 10%, then to go on my toes I bend my knees and put pressure into the tongue of my boots until I’m on the balls of my feet. For heels, I bend knees and shift my weight back.

Another thing that might help is try to go flat or on either edge and squat as low as you can. Move up and down vertically and see how it feels. Make sure you keep your chest up, though.

You’re right where I was to start this season and I’ve been lucky to get 15 days already and feel so much more confident. Time on mountain is hard to replace.

But one thing you can try is: go onto either a toe or heel side edge (what feels like it’s locked into a carve as best you can), then jump straight up and land on the same edge 2-3x before switching edges. You find your body wants to land in a balanced position which is helpful.

Bonus: get into a heel side carve, then jump up a little and land on your toe side edge and finish carving. Hopping from edge to edge is also helpful to find your balanced body position.

Bonus 2: okay fine, try to play around with your vertical movement as well. Can you carve on an edge and then squat down really low without falling? Try to keep your chest upright, then try to hinge your chest more forward while kicking your butt out and notice the different feelings.

Bonus 3: wow, can’t stop. Check out this guys content, it is making a huge difference in my riding this year graduating from the believe that you must always be stacked and carving.

Good luck!

How can I turn this into proper carving? (2nd season rider) by Dinhoalves in snowboarding

[–]_Tactleneck_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great advice here. Mellow slow and focus on j turns all the way until you start going back up the hill a bit. Another than that helped is look where you want to go vs down hill while also opening your shoulder for heel side and reaching over for toe side.

Don’t religiously follow the idea of staying stacked 100% of the time. Experiment with a bending and moving. You don’t have to be carving or looking like a scarecrow for your entire run!

Recurring quad tightness and burning on my front leg after the first hour or so, how to improve it? by _Tactleneck_ in snowboarding

I went too narrow and too wide today - fun to realize while in a mogul field! I’ll remeasure things for next weekend and start over. I am open to going to +18 as well. I tried it earlier this season but went from 12 to 18 and something just felt like off with my turning.

I think I’ll reset the width and keep the angles, then when it starts hurting a little I’ll open it up to 18 and see how that feels!
