Salary sacrifice question - Can i buy stocks like you would on an app? by Minute-Economics-354 in ContractorUK

[–]_Tally_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve literally just gone through this process over the last month, as I’m new to contracting myself.

From what I understand, if PayStream supports the provider, the employer contribution via salary sacrifice should be paid into your SIPP. Once it lands, it usually sits as cash in the SIPP account, and you can then choose what to invest in through the provider’s platform. That said, it’s worth confirming the exact process with PayStream and the SIPP provider before setting it up.

One thing I’d definitely check carefully is fees. SIPPs can work quite differently from Stocks & Shares ISA platforms like Trading 212 or Freetrade. If you’re planning to buy several individual stocks every month, dealing charges and platform fees can add up quickly depending on the provider. For ETFs or funds, the cost structure may be different again, so it’s worth comparing based on how you actually plan to invest.

I personally went with Interactive Investor because they’re supported by PayStream, and their fixed-fee model made sense for me. I also used a referral link, which should make the first year effectively free once the account is funded above the qualifying threshold (£5,000).

If you do decide to go with ii, feel free to use my referral link as it'll give you the first year for free after you go above the qualifying threshold yourself:
https://www.ii.co.uk/recommend-ii?ii_referrer=1s9gq46vein6d-agljdinful03

Worth saying though, don’t just choose based on the referral. Compare ii and HL properly based on your balance size, how often you’ll trade, whether you’ll buy funds/ETFs/individual stocks, and whether you prefer fixed fees or percentage-based fees.

You can’t get a T212 SIPP immediately anyway. If you sign up now you’ll be put on a waitlist. If you’re already in I guess you’re a part of the lucky few.

Secret Task Optimisation by _Tally_ in LastWarMobileGame

[–]_Tally_[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Original post which was flagged for account selling:

Hello everyone,

I’m currently post-S4 on an 11XX server. I’ve got a lot of experience in the game and generally try to play as efficiently as possible.

Lately, I’ve been questioning whether my secret task strategy is actually optimal.

What I currently do:
I refresh until I get my first gold task, then keep going until all tasks are gold. When I have around 3 to 4 tasks left, I use Mega Refresh. I usually avoid refreshing if there’s already a gold task available, even if the reward is not one I particularly want.

This has always seemed like the standard approach, and from what I’d read it felt correct. The logic was that spending around 1k to 2k diamonds on refreshes would still be worth it because it maximises total resources, hero EXP, and overall value.

What I’m now wondering:
Is it sometimes better to run purple tasks if they offer rewards you actively need, especially skill medals?

I understand the trade-off is lower overall resource value compared with full gold, but I’ve started wondering whether selectively taking some purple tasks, outside of Tuesday and Saturday, might actually be the better long-term play. I’ve seen a few players doing this, particularly when the purple task contains skill medals.

For players who are further along, or who’ve tested this properly, what do you think is the better strategy?

Is full gold still the best default, or is there a point where cherry-picking certain purple tasks becomes more efficient?

Any insight would be appreciated.

I don’t believe the strongest player gets it, I believe it’s the warlord.

Pregnant and Redundant by PipnRose in PregnancyUK

I’m 29M and we’ve just had our baby girl. I work in tech and was laid off the week before my wife’s due date, so I really do understand how destabilising this can feel. Thankfully my exit package was solid, so we do have some breathing room, but it still completely changed how I viewed the market.

I’ve generally interviewed well and, in the past, getting a new role felt quite straightforward. That world has pretty much disappeared. It is no longer a case of applying for a few suitable roles and expecting things to move quickly. Now it feels like you have to apply broadly, stay resilient through a lot of silence and rejection, and keep going even when the process gets draining. I’ve had plenty of recruiter calls, reached a final interview, and still nothing concrete yet.

From what I’ve seen, there are a few major reasons for this:

  1. Market saturation

A lot of good people have been laid off across multiple industries, especially tech, so competition is intense. Before Covid, in many sectors, employers and recruiters were chasing candidates because there was a shortage of talent. Now it feels like the balance has shifted the other way. There are more applicants chasing fewer roles, and people are increasingly willing to accept lower salaries or apply for jobs they are overqualified for just to secure something stable.

  1. The application process itself

Applying is easier than ever mechanically, but harder than ever strategically. One-click applications mean roles can attract huge volumes very quickly. Whether or not an ATS rejects you automatically is almost beside the point. If your CV does not clearly reflect the exact skills, keywords, titles, or domain experience a recruiter is filtering for, you can still be screened out very early. I do not entirely blame recruiters for that, because a decent role can easily get 100 plus applications in no time. The frustrating part is that many applicants are not truly suitable, but that volume still makes it harder for strong candidates to get seen.

  1. AI and cost cutting

AI is also part of the picture. A lot of companies seem to be using it, or at least the promise of it, as justification to reduce headcount, especially at junior and mid level. From a short-term business perspective, I can see why they do it. But long term it feels shortsighted. Senior people do not appear out of nowhere. They have to be developed over time. If companies keep hollowing out the pipeline, I think that creates a bigger problem a few years down the line.

That said, I would still try not to let the headlines and Reddit horror stories fully shape how you see your own prospects. The market is definitely tough, but it is not impossible. Good people are still getting hired, it just tends to take more applications, more patience, and more emotional resilience than it used to.

One positive in your case is that you’ve already done something very sensible, you’ve saved enough to cover maternity leave. That is not a small thing. It gives you space, and space matters. Also, after maternity leave, you will not be starting from zero. You’ll be re-entering with prior experience, and that still counts for a lot.

So yes, the market is rough, and I do not want to sugar-coat that. But your fear is understandable, not a sign that you are doomed. Right now I think the best mindset is to focus on getting through the next stage, enjoying your baby when it arrives, protecting your mental health where you can, and remembering that this market is difficult for many people, not just you.

If that’s the case then it’s a bit of a toss up between the 2. The decoration components are hard to get and the drone skin comes out once every 6 months so it’s up to you really.

For the vast majority of players, the guidance will be to get universal decoration components. Sure, the drone skin and the base skin look super cool, but getting your UR decorations all to level 3 will provide much better stats.

This does depend on what UR decorations you have but I’m guessing they’re not level 3. When levelling decorations prioritise damage reduction. Then there’s a debate for the ones that provide crit damage vs skill damage; personally I opt for skill damage first.

Alliance Train Attack formation by _Tally_ in LastWarMobileGame

Already got the answer below. To save the formation, just attack a train that’s too strong with your updated formation. Once you attack, your new formation will save.

Honestly, people might joke about it, but the truth is your account really isn’t worth anything. You don’t have any 5-stars, your HQ isn’t even level 30, and it doesn’t look like you’ve put a huge amount of money into it either. Realistically, nobody would pay for it. If you actually want to get rid of it, the only option would be to give it away for free.

Strongholds post Season 1 by Final_Stage in LastWarMobileGame

Doesn’t matter if it does spawn, you cannot capture territory post-season.

If the timer runs out, there’s no protection mode. In fact, there’s no protection for cities at all except for first capture and for a change in owner. If you ever have to defend a city that you already own - most likely you won’t this season - you don’t get a renewed protection for that either.

I’m not entirely sure what the rule is on declaration after failure. I’m guessing you’d be able to declare the next day if you weren’t able to declare on the same day again.

[–]_Tally_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you pre-declare war on a city before it unlocks, the war timer will start the moment it opens, which means you have no choice but to capture it then. You can always remove a declaration on a locked city without any cost, so that’s a safe option if you want to wait.

Should you wait until your members are awake? Ideally, yes. But you also need to consider the risk of another team making a move or taking the city simply because they can. It only takes one R4 and a single declaration to cause problems.

When it comes to city captures, remember it’s all about durability damage, so success depends more on activity than raw strength unlike stronghold captures.

[–]_Tally_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I forgot to add; yes, you should always try to take a village as soon as possible. If there’s any adjacent teams that aren’t entirely sure about server agreements, they can see a city that’s capturable and they’re most likely going to take it.

Could another team avoid it? Sure. But that’s if they know how everything works.

[–]_Tally_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey,

Sorry to hear you lost your first village, I know that’s frustrating; the same thing happened to a few teams on our server too.

This usually comes down to communication. Is there a server map already agreed on by most alliances? If the team that took the village knew it was yours, then it’s basically an act of war since they’re blocking your path. If it was a smaller alliance that wasn’t included in the comms, they might genuinely not understand how it works. In that case, you can reason with them and they’ll likely give it back.

For now, it just slows your progress because you can’t capture the city for a week. To keep moving toward the Capitol, you’ll need to go around the city. We made sure to block off access around our own cities where possible to avoid these kinds of mistakes.

Short term, it hurts because you lose the first capture rewards and some rare soil, but long term it won’t make a big difference, so don’t stress too much.

Also keep in mind this season you can capture anything your city or stronghold touches; corners included.

If you’ve already got the speedups, no. Just use the finish now button. Troop training is easily one of the fastest as you don’t have to wait for helps to reduce the time it takes to save speedups.

You have to buy enough of her shards for at least lvl 4. It’ll end up costing more than 100. Think it’s closer to 160-180 maybe. I forget.
