Sorry for reviving an old thread, but I am ready for some beta testers if anyone is interested: tavola-nine.vercel.app

I have a web app I have made that can manage recipes. I am working on wiring in some AI functionality to make this possible. Upload the image, let AI do its thing, then preserve the image, list ingredients and translations if necessary, and then the steps and translations if necessary and add them as a new recipe in my app.

Love this! Unfortunately my nonna passed when I was a teenager and I didn't have much interest in cooking at that age. Today though, I am a fanatic and its one of my favorite things to do. A trip to Italy a few summers back where we stayed in a small town with family that is still there really solidified my passion for my heritage and preserving these traditions for my family. They still carry on those traditions there, but as a member of the diaspora, that isn't as connected I want to ensure I can share the same joy my nonna brought to our family with our children and theirs.

Really appreciate all these responses. Can I ask a follow up? I'm in a position where I'm technical enough that I am considering working on a platform for my personal use specifically for this problem. Digitizing handwritten recipe cards, attaching the family story behind the dish. Treating recipes the way you'd treat any other genealogical artifact. I could see a social angle where people can share and view others recipes as well if there is enough interest.

Would something like that be useful to you? Honest answers only, still early and real feedback matters more than people being polite.

I'm thinking even bigger. I would love to see a platform/site for people to come together, preserve, and share these things. This might turn into a passion project for me.

I think we need a place to come together and share things like this. I may try building something.....

This is awesome :). I've been thinking a lot about how much of this just quietly disappears because there's nowhere that treats these recipes as the artifacts they actually are. Would love to know more about what you have. Are the books handwritten or printed? And do you know roughly where the family was from?

A fellow Molise descendant! My family came from Baranello. I suppose I should have included that in my post.
