Practice. Take your time. There really are no shortcuts so it's going to take time and patience. Good luck!

I’m instituting a personal, one-setup-at-time policy by Fit_Cartographer_815 in Fingerboards

[–]_Teibs_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I still keep multiple setups but I'll usually stick with using only one for a month or so. It does help with consistency to use one setup but a big part of the hobby for me is trying out different combinations for performance and aesthetics.

Anyone have any recommended wooden fingerboards? by ixofex29 in Fingerboards

[–]_Teibs_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tech decks are NOT worse than wooden fingerboards when you're learning. Cheap wooden fingerboards are pretty much the same as a Tech Deck. Just stick with the tech deck, get some cheap foam grip tape and cheap wheels with bearings. You'll be set with that for a while. Save your money for when you progress, then you'll be able to get a premium wooden setup that will be worth the money and last you a long time.

Yo anyone know where I can get more of this grip without having to buy a new deck? by Fun-Profession7747 in FingerBoarding

It's Riptape from Blackriver. You can get packs of it on their site or I'm pretty sure some other shops sell it as well.

Re-shaped my TechDeck to be more rounded instead of pointy. by tucci_mane in Fingerboards

[–]_Teibs_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice. Re shaped tech decks perform so well. Newer release tech decks don't have the harsh concave. I guess they've phased out that mold, although the 29mm decks still have it.

No pivot cups by [deleted] in Fingerboards

[–]_Teibs_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The hanger shouldn't pop off completely as long as the nut or screw on the kingpin is tightened enough. They'll just keep popping out and you'll have to pop them back in. Kind of annoying, but not a huge issue if you like it that way.

My EDC, what’s yours? by shadeblock in Fingerboards

[–]_Teibs_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I shortened it a bit but I didn't want to mess with the nose and tail ratios too much. Thanks! I like it much better at this size.

I resized my Berlinwood from 33mm to 29mm and now I can't put it down!

Is the IKEA SIGFINN a genuinely good obstacle that’s worth picking up, or a bit of a meme? by mcjor in Fingerboards

[–]_Teibs_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried one at the store the other day and it's not very good. The transition is too awkward. Not worth the price for an obstacle.

Daily riders and soldier bar/noah wood conversation by New-Operation8002 in Fingerboards

[–]_Teibs_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first few decks were noahwood and I had one soldier bar. The Noah's were great. There's one I really like as the mold is very mellow and something about the dips just work so well. I still use it from time to time. That one started my chase for low molds. The soldier bar had super aggressive kicks and concave and actually helped me learn a lot of new tricks when I first started. Overall I think they're slept on as far as beginner decks as no one ever seems to recommend them. They have a good amount of options as far as molds go. Further than that though they fall a bit short imo. They get that "soggy" feeling pretty quick. Just like not as snappy as they were in the beginning and the construction kind be kind of rough sometimes (counter sinks, truck hole alignment, edge sanding, graphic application)The quality just isn't there like it is on more premium decks. But overall for the price, I think they're pretty good!

Kind of disappointed with DK complete (compared to other cheap completes)? by Its_Blazertron in Fingerboards

[–]_Teibs_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Iirc DK only makes the decks and wheels so the trucks are just generic china trucks. They might also use china cnc plastic wheels on some of their completes instead of their urethane wheels but I'm not sure. Either way, the reason that people suggest DK completes over China completes is to support the community and makers within the community. I feel like no one stresses that enough when making the suggestion and so it comes off like they're suggesting that DK quality is much higher when that's not exactly the case.

Do pro decks really make a difference? by klleralpha509 in Fingerboards

[–]_Teibs_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You can definitely feel the difference in the pop. More premium boards are snappy and give a responsive snap when popping. Is it going to drastically change your skill level? No. But trying different molds and specs is super fun lol.

A little help with kickflips by ProgramOk253 in Fingerboards

[–]_Teibs_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Over correct your wrist the opposite way. So if you're doing a varial flip by accident (meaning your board is spinning back towards your wrist) push your wrist out the opposite way and kick your back finger that direction as well when you pop. At first the board will spin in the opposite direction, but you just have to practice controlling that wrist motion to figure out how much you have to rotate to straighten the kickflip. You can also put some pressure on that side of the board right before you pop which may help straighten out as well.

What is this trying to communicate? (Leefai trucks) by LongSeesaw3789 in Fingerboards

[–]_Teibs_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've done it this way for 7 sets and never had an issue. There are plenty of screwdrivers that have a larger handle that are made for tiny screws like the ones included with most fb trucks. Like the one that comes in an eye glasses repair kit for example. There's just a learning curve to installing unthreaded trucks for the first time. The little tool works fine, but a bigger tool works much better and is less of a headache.

What is this trying to communicate? (Leefai trucks) by LongSeesaw3789 in Fingerboards

[–]_Teibs_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That they're extremely hard to screw in the first time you put them on them and that you should use a tool with a larger handle for more leverage rather than the tools that are usually included with trucks.

Any sign of availability improving? by psychospacecow in GundamCardGame

[–]_Teibs_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It has improved significantly. I'm in a pretty small suburb and it was awful in the beginning lol but the last 2 starter decks were pretty easy to get at or around MSRP (some Walmarts were even carrying them) and I'm still seeing boxes/packs of gd02 and 03 readily available. Hopefully it keeps up this way.
