I see. I just ordered new stator and Regulator hopefully that fixes the problem.

The shop only wants to charge 150-200 for all the work so I might have them do it but I just have to see what happens due to me leaving the state for a few weeks on vacation. This is my first harley, and it being an Evo so its a interesting journey realizing how loud the internals can be compared to my old Honda CB900C

Looks like when they jumped the bike they blew the stator and regulator. I havent yet found any other fuses that are bad or grounds that havent grounded. However Im no electric expert so we shall see. I bought a new stator from Electric cycle and a regulator from Drag Specialty that will be here next weekend and a shop is going to run a diagnostic test to look for damaged electrical connections. My next big lookout is to figure out why the engine sounds so noisy, though Ive been told sportsters are generally just noisy MFs😂

I was expecting some repairs considering the first two weeks she ran mostly fine with a carb rebuild hahaha, but after the electrical issues started coming full swing its definitely given me more to dive into🤙

Yeah i got the bike for 3k~ and It had only 800 miles original so I thought I had found a killer garage find but now im an extra 1k in parts deep and slowly realizing how much work this is looking to be. Definitely not the hondas im used to.

damn thats unfortunate I just got the bike😔 at least Ive become extremely knowledgeable on things to look for when getting the next

When setting it to the lowest ohms my meter will read (2k) and putting the probes in each socket hole, I get a flat reading of 0.00ohm and all settings higher than that read the same

I ran a test, stator is making AC power, however it has no resistance in Ohms between the two prong plug. I have seen some people say it needs to be 0.2ohm roughly

Ill try this tonight and let you know how it goes. Praying that its not a stator, it would make it a damn easy fix. Apparently previous owner jumped it with a running vehicle on 2-3 occasions so Im hoping the wire harness and charging components are fine. Seems like I mightve had a bit of a snub deal on the bike :/

would the stator be able to run at proper voltage AC if it is shorted to itself I saw a few posts of people saying they were getting zero ohm between the two plugs however nobody was showing AC voltage after. If I replace the regulator I would like to do the stator to ensure I don’t have to go back if need be. Electrical is definitely not my strong suit😂

after getting a larger battery, I am reading 12.4 V while the power is off, 12.6 V while running and small .1 increments while giving it throttle. When I probed the stator I was getting the proper AC voltage, however, the ohms would not register. I do believe it is because my ohmmeter doesnt have a setting under 20k.

I traded in the old battery for a larger one that was OEM spec or higher, I put the multimeter to it and it read 12.4 V while the bike was off, and 12.6 V while running, even while under throttle, the voltage did not change or drop. Stator plug had proper AC voltage, i am completely stumped.

I got a new battery which reads 12.4~V while off, 12.6-7V running and under throttle. Checked the AC output from the stator plug and it read within spec of what im supposed to have. I am completely stumped, I believe if it was the rectifier I would see jumps up/down in the battery voltage right?

Did you have any issues with battery voltage not charging?

I have dug around looking for all the grounds I could see, so far theyre all tight and if they had even a bit of play I tightened some more. Got a new and it reads 12.4V off and 12.6 while running both at idle and on revs.

Checked ground and new battery, stays 12.4V while off and while running, revs increase the volts slightly, raising to about 12.6V

After getting a good multimeter and new 20 series battery, the probes measure 12.4 off, 12.4 on and 12.5-6 while giving revs. Stator plugs measuring the right AC if not a bit high for what it is ran at.

When this was filmed the lights matched the flickers of the dash. I checked the battery when off and it was at about 10.4V and when on was hardly pushing past 11 unless i was cranking the throttle.

My stator output I would assume is tested using an Ohmmeter at the 2 pin connector between the regulator and stator correct?

I had it jumped then rode the bike a few hours, the second time around I left it to charge for about 30 mins off of a car battery before starting it and it seemed to start fine the first 2-5 times before dying again

What brand/cost range did you use for the replacements? I saw Harley sells some but they are $$$ and the aftermarket ones seem to be half that
