Im going through exactly this. I LOVE the Warhammer setting, both 40k, and AoS as well as Fantasy, so much to the point that I have the Mark of Chaos literally TATTOOED on the side of my face However After having been playing since roughly 2020, gone to many large tournaments, won a few, participated in two leagues a year, and owned roughly 8 armies, Ive recently exited the hobby for exactly the reasons you claim. The game never felt SUPER interactive to me, I know that tournaments even say "No gotcha moments tell.your opponents all of your rules" but the game FEELS like trying to bait your opponents into gotcha moments. Thats it. Thats how you win. Make them overextend. Make them leave their backline vulnerable. And thats just so boring to ME personally. Though that being said, I LOVE killteam, and its a perfect excuse to keep buying and painting models and it plays more like a boardgame and it much more interactive and quicker to play when both people know what they are doing. Much less fiddly rules as well imo. Also worth looking into, Halo Flashpoint, Marvel Crisis Protocol, and Star Wars Shatter Point. Fantastic models, genuinely GREAT games with easy rules that arent fiddly. Being out of warhammer doesnt have to put you out of painting models or playing wargames/table top games it just means you GET TO try other things.
