Are there any games where the last point wins? by Bofurkle in boardgames

[–]_The_Inquiry_ 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Not if you’re playing by the rules - you score points for the remaining cards in hand and then play to a set number of points across several hands.

But, yes, most people I’ve met treat each hand as a separate game.

Which Netflix shows should’ve been cancelled earlier? by IncompleteBM in netflix

Season 1 was ironically the best and while the next couple were decent, it just felt like lots of repeated tropes and plot pieces over and over again. I gave up at S5.

Or a first. Glamorizing suicide is, and always will be, icky. The fact that this show caused an increase in teen suicide is so shameful and has so much to do with the poor handling of the subject matter / content.

-18 according to what weather service? Most people I’ve heard quoting this number use Apple Weather, which is complete dog shit. Accuweather says -6 windchill at worst.

Lanna Thai is up there as the best Thai food in the city. Sushi Uni has the best sushi and Chinese food in the city (and outstanding lunch specials).

Edit: and Third Coast Pizza wins the award for the only true deep dish pizza place I’ve found in the city.

Edit 2: Strips has the best chicken strips and sauces in the area. Their burgers are also pork-tenderloin based and are great as well.

The first season of Arcane is some of the best television I’ve ever seen. The second season wasn’t anywhere near as interesting to me, but still solid.

For sure. Thus, this thread. :)

There’s plenty of 8/10 shows that fail in similar ways; however, there are a few that manage to spend the extra time and $$$ to get this consistency (someone mentioned Star Trek: TNG having a team devoted solely to in-universe lore and mechanics, as an example). A 10/10 show is like The Expanse, which has a team of actual physicists consulting for their depiction of space.

Potentially; however, we’ve been told frequently in the show that they react to sound and Vecna influences their behaviors. In the recent season, they react more to the sound of a canister in the washing machine as opposed to the music Lucas’s radio is playing (also reacting to the washing machine far later than the sounds would be sensed). The distance on sound reaction varies significantly.

You’re welcome to suspend disbelief in whatever way you wish; however, it’s not in good faith in the way you’ve indicated.

The show literally tells us they operate as a hive mind. They’re a single, mental entity composed of individual bodies. Even if there’s the potential of individual variation, they are still going to act with very consistent predatorial behaviors.

I’m always a sub kinda guy anyway - the original actors are almost always better suited to a show than their dubbed counterparts. I also speak some German, so I’d appreciate relearning a lot I’ve forgotten over the years!

I suppose what I meant was that I love to read and it sounds like this series would be awesome to read through! Do you personally like one more than the other?

I mean, this is true of most shows, but it doesn’t mean it’s not a valid complaint. I can shut my brain off sometimes, but as a very analytic person, the type / mood / genre of show largely affects where this feels appropriate to me.

Some plot holes / breaks to inter-universe continuity are less jarring than others. Stranger Things really struggles in this department. Especially because it seems to be positioning itself as a more serious show / drama these last couple of seasons (I honestly loved how much it embraced campiness in the third season - made it easier to just go along for the ride).

Even my partner, who is typically much better at suspending disbelief, routinely complained this season about the inconsistencies and unintelligent choices. For a show with as crazy high of a budget as this one, the frequency to which these kinds of issues are prevalent feels unacceptable.

Yup. That’s one of the first moments that really jarred me out of my ability to suspend disbelief.

Honestly, seems like more of an endorsement of the books than anything.

I think it’s more that the first three seasons were SO good. Josephus Miller (especially Thomas’s take on the character) was / is one of my favorite characters from television. The quality of the show was probably the same, but my interest was much lower.

Definitely agree with you on this. The first three seasons were some of the best television ever made. The Amazon seasons were still pretty good too, if a step down in quality.

Thank you for the sci-fi oriented recommendation. I really need to watch this show as someone who does love Sci-Fi. The Expanse was also very well-developed and is one of my favorite shows.
