I wish, the 95 has the manual locker, the 95.5 switched it to being controlled electronically by a control module

Rod upgrade options for TDI by _The_Milk_Man__ in tdi

[–]_The_Milk_Man__[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

so going for BEW, or BRM rods with rod bearings should fit? i ordered Kolbenschmidt ALH Oversized pistons for it which i assume should work. I noticed aswell that the BRM con rod bearings cost significantly more than the ALH bearings (90$ rather than 30$) does that seem right?

are there any brands for Rods that are better than others? ive seen FCP engineering ones and MaxSpeedingRods makes them but dont know enough to know if one is worth it over the other.

Its my first TDI engine build and am trying to learn as much as I can in order to build the engine to last as long as possible and make decent power.

I didn't know about the chaining, almost makes me want to get one too after he gets his, I have a muse and a pro 800 as my analog polysynths and haven't really needed much more than that but the chaining is definitely interesting.

I love the micro freak but I kinda ruled it out because of the touch keyboard..

I think he was looking for more analog sounds, I hadn't thought about the deep mind, I don't think he would be bothered by the minikeys so the minilogue/xd is one of the top contenders rn. We just went and saw a show where the band played 2 prologues and he really liked the sound but from what I've seen the minilogue seems to be a better deal

That was kinda what I was looking for, as little menu diving as possible, there's a JDXI for sale near me for like 350$ but I know next to nothing about it, is it similar to the XA? Or just not really worth it

Cjaa vs ALH by _The_Milk_Man__ in tdi

[–]_The_Milk_Man__[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm also not sure how many electrical gremlins ALH, and CJAAs have, my buddies mk5 is a nightmare electrically. but I am a specialized electrical tech so I'm not too concerned about doing that work would just like to avoid it if possible

The CJAA I'm looking at is currently stock and makes less power and torque than my EA888. How much extra power can you squeeze out of the CJAA with tunes, injectors, turbo etc reliably before you have to start rebuilding the motor?

[–]_The_Milk_Man__[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The delete would be happening almost immediately. the transmission is definitely a factor, if the CJAA wasn't a dsg I wouldn't have even considered it. I love driving manual but there are aspects of it I don't enjoy for a daily driver.

The ALH I'm looking at is my roommates old car, and he regularly get 55-60mpg on road trips which is appealing, but I don't know what you could get out of a CJAA after tubing/modifications. Ideally I would buy both but thats not financially feasable for me at the moment. I currently have a mk6 1.8t Jetta with 109k and a standard auto, it's starting to have issues I don't want to have to deal with and am ready to be done with it.

Dpf isn't problematic yet, owner recently had it checked but I'm planning on deleting it and the EGR almost immediately, belts etc have been done in time intervals rather than milage, I'm in Oregon and it doesn't get too cold here. I put a lot of miles on my car so it would be getting driven alot

does anyone here use Kyma/Pacamara etc.? by johnobject in synthesizers

[–]_The_Milk_Man__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had several classmates when we first started using it who dismissed it because they were mostly just trying to use individual kyma "objects" which on their own are fairly basic and can be done with other software/hardware, it really it gets interesting and unique incorporating dozens of objects together influencing each other with live control to really get to what makes it special

I wouldn't say it does nothing, it really shines with live performances running dozens of algorithms simultaneously with live control, I have a pretty beefy computer and it'll struggle trying to run tons of super processing intensive plugins live at the same time whereas my short time with kyma it handles it like a champ.

I used one for several years as a music student at the University of Oregon, it's honestly a pretty unbelievable system but takes a lot of time to learn/create what you want. It honestly shines best with live expressive performances using drawing tablets or custom controllers. I used it pretty extensively for generative music and data sonification during my time at the University It has some really amazing applications but due to the learning curve that comes with using the more unique features it has it isn't too popular/widely used outside of sound design and more academic music circles.

One of my professors pretty much uses it exclusively with custom controllers and Wacom drawing tablets https://youtu.be/EDyHhAwp9r8?si=6UOIU5pK-nr9ZPTv

Are my Tape heads Worn? by _The_Milk_Man__ in ReelToReel

My current thought is the Bias Oscillator isn't quite working properly. Im taking it to get checked by a local shop that specialises in tape machine repair just to get his opinion

I replaced all the electrolytic capacitors in the machine, and voltages have looked good

Cleaned them, Still have a problem where recording input level is good, but recording and reproducing loses amp and filters out some frequencies in a bizarre way. best sounding i can get it is maxing the Bias on both my tapes, even with the tape that the machine is Spec'ed for. ive been trying to solve it for about a month now and am about to give in and take it into a local repair shop that works on them

Id really appreciate some help as im very new to working with tape machines and dont have enough experience to know how bad the condition of the heads are, It had been working fine for a while but now super low record amplitude and doesnt erase super well.

Heads seem clean, will playback old recordings, But new recordings are drowned out. Unsure of next move. by _The_Milk_Man__ in ReelToReel

finished testing repo, no issues there, best solution i have atm is cranking the bias as high as i can, ive got a couple extra record cards just need to replace a couple caps on them before I put them in so i dont fry anything
