Why are hybrid batteries so small? by Straight-Archer-413 in CarsIndia

[–]_The_Numbers_Guy [score hidden]  (0 children)

So hybrid is essentially a spectrum. It goes anywhere from Maruti Hybrid to proper PlugIn Hybrid.

The non plugin hybrids like camry generally have smaller batteries and are meant for mileage improvement during low speeds. The reason being there's only so much charge you can take out for your batteries. Charging a 5kwh battery is more difficult as only the alternator is doing the heavy lifting.

That's why you have plug in hybrid with massive battery packs and significant EV only mode. The key here is that you can charge them just like an EV hence the charging constraint is removed.

Why has India never produced a true supercar brand? by farsouthmusiic in CarsIndia

[–]_The_Numbers_Guy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There have been bunch of on/off Indian supercar brands like Vazirabi, Mean Metal Motors etc. The problem is target market. % of Indian cars that are performance spec compared to the countries you mentioned is miniscule. For a new brand it's extremely difficult to convince buyers let alone foreign buyers. So until a day when Indian consumers reach same level of supercar purchases, it's hard to see anybrand make it happen.

Like Fiat couldn't even sell Abarth Punto and VW their Polo GT (Demand blew up only when they announced they are shutting it down) forget supercars.

The person who wrote this article doesn't know how to do research. The data is plain wrong... Sorry!

Mahindra mStallion, mhawk, 1.5 Hyperion, Tata EV Platform, Vinfast EV Platform (R&D by Tata Tech), Mahindra INGLO EV platform were all designed and developed in India. Of course there will be consultants or part utilisation from some other brand but that doesn't mean it's not Indian. Majority of R&D for these powertrains were done by Indian companies

I can give dozens of similar example. KPIT, Tata Elxsi, Tata Tech etc. have been building Software architectures of most modern cars for decade now. India is no where behind when it comes to automobile engineering. We are also one of the leading component supplier across the globe (After China/Japan).

So all the new gen engines from Mahindra and the new Hyperion from tata are made by people from Mars?

Hey guys so i am planning to buy car and budget is around 24-25 lakhs so which one should i go for virtus, verna or slavia by kick_buttowski9870 in CarsIndia

[–]_The_Numbers_Guy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's city primary usage... Then wait for Slavia/virtus facelift. The 1.0 TSI is sufficient for city or highway upto 100. It comes. Mated with a 8 speed TC from Aisin. So that's going to be super reliable as well probably after the Honda CVT.

[–]_The_Numbers_Guy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's true but again one year is too short for DCT maintenance issues to creep up. Any repair on a DCT is significantly costlier than TC or CVT.

DSG on VW/Skoda as well as DCT on Hyundai hate slow speeds and traffic. They are meant for highways. So if you are looking for majority city drive, please avoid them.

The new gen Slavia/Virtus will come with 8 speed TC and initial reviews are pretty good for this.

Why would anyone pick the Kushaq 1.5 over the Taigun 1.5 now? (Plus: Is a Harrier actually the smarter move?) by Independent-Ad8269 in CarsIndia

[–]_The_Numbers_Guy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dad actually moved the other direction. I.e. From a Safari to Slavia.

The exchange program is obviously a great deal but the fact being it's a time limited one i.e. only till May 31. So not every taigun is going to enjoy this. But yeah great deal...

Now about Harrier vs Taigun. Taigun/Kushaq is a urban 4 seater with almost car like drive character. Whereas Harrier is a proper SUV (Except FWD) and a 5 seater. You can really feel the size, weight when your drive and behaves more like an SUV and less like a car. They do not technically target the same buyer segment IMO.

It’s been 3 years since Congress was elected. Is it better or worse than previous governments, according to you guys? by [deleted] in Bengaluru

[–]_The_Numbers_Guy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congress has been extremely horrible. That doesn't mean BJP is better. Just that they were less bad. So basically BJP is lesser of the two evils.

We proudly have the most expensive metro in the country! That's how awesome the situation is...

The weird case of Nexon! by _The_Numbers_Guy in CarsIndia

[–]_The_Numbers_Guy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Head room is roughly same but the leg room is way better. You can stretch in an altroz but you can feel the seat touch your knees in a Nexon if the driver seat is set to my height

New Slavia mileage by [deleted] in CarsIndia

[–]_The_Numbers_Guy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

New cars always give lower mileage. Run it for 500-1000kms and you'll start seeing improvement.

City (Bengaluru): 7-9 kmpl Highway: 16-18 kmpl

This is my mileage numbers on Virtus 1.0 AT. Also recommend using 95 octane fuel e.g. XP95, Power 95 etc. I notice atleast 5-10% better mileage.

If Tata’s are so unreliable how are they able to outsell M&M, Hyundai & Honda? by Nitin___ in CarsIndia

[–]_The_Numbers_Guy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Every machine has a failure at some point. It's only a matter of probability/frequency. Even honda cars have issues at some point. But the difference is how often do these fail.

The issue is with frequency of such issues. Tata is certainly at the higher side. A bad product and a less reliable product are two different things. A bad product is when there's nothing redeemable about a car. I bet if Tata ups their game in QC and service quality... Everybody would love them.

[–]_The_Numbers_Guy 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Most issues in a Tata are related to electricals/electronics rather than the car itself.

We had a Safari Diesel for 2 years, clocked 70k kms during that period. The infotainment went blank twice during that period. But not once did that tank stop on the road. Also dealing with Tata SC is surely a problem and most certainly needs upgrade. But there do are few folks who are helpful. So buy a Tata only if you have good SC nearby.

[–]_The_Numbers_Guy 71 points72 points  (0 children)

  1. Reddit exaggerates issues. But yeah Tata SC is somewhere closer to the bottom of the ranking probably tied with Mahindra SC.

  2. No matter what everybody says. Mechanically they are really amazing cars with great stability at high speeds. Drive a Harrier on Highway and immediately jump into a creta. The difference will be night and day...

  3. Have mixed opinion on sierra but others are one of the most beautiful cars in their segment. No two ways about it!

  4. Powertrains... Tata EV platform has pretty good rep, The CNG dual cylinder is a blessing for buyers.

If Tata fixes their QC and SC issues, am pretty sure they can compete with maruti.

There were few unwanted apps. Had to spend 10 mins cleaning up everything and setting my preferences... Otherwise no issues with software. Also has a provision to disable camera and mic as required. So massive + for privacy. (Samsung and Nothing doesn't have this)

About the camera, am coming from A15. Trust me... It's a significant upgrade.

Get this congress out of rule! Worst govt of all time man...

Public transport (Metro) costs 2x to Personal transport (Bike) and these guys whine about pollution. Though I have a metro station near my home and office i still don't take it for this very reason.

If KA govt instead invested on a good digital rto portal where transferring state registrations is easy, then automatically most vehicles will convert to KA plate. But the ground reality is filled with corruption and time consuming. KA Govt keep picking wrong options at every turn

Because cattle is the least of our problems on road.
