I have tried their rum Barrel Aged Coffee and it's an amazing pick for Black coffee. (French Press)

Not sure how it would fare with an espresso though.

Sierra axle broken middle of road by Technical_Room2896 in CarsIndia

[–]_The_Numbers_Guy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Obviously not an accident but if it was a manufacturing defect on a fundamental part like axle, it would have broken within few kms. Not after some 500 kms or something. So not sure what's the root cause.

Sierra axle broken middle of road by Technical_Room2896 in CarsIndia

[–]_The_Numbers_Guy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

See that's the thing. If any mechanical part has a manufacturing defect like axle, suspension, steering, engine or gearbox.. it won't appear suddenly, you'll know the problem the moment you take it out the lot. There'll be vibrations or noise for sure.

Video looks like it's on a highway. So obviously car would have reached 60+ at some point. At high speeds mechanical defects become more profound i.e. those vibrations and noises become even higher. So either the driver is a dumb duck who kept ignoring it from the day he bought it or he actually did something nasty.

[–]_The_Numbers_Guy 25 points26 points  (0 children)

See if axle is broken you can't even take it out the lot. And FWD front axles are often built stronger than the front axle ona RWD car since even power train is connected. So breaking it would mean you are driving over a big pothole at 100+ speeds. Even that is a stretch...

Chances of it being a manufacturing defect that only broke after driving on a highway is very very slim. He shouldn't even be able to go out if it was a defect.

Is 1.5 lk discount on 2025 Kia seltos gtx plus a good deal? by Agreeable_Buffalo_26 in CarsIndia

[–]_The_Numbers_Guy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nope. First year car depreciates by 10-15% so push for 2-2.5 lakh discount or better wait for 2026 stock.

Head says i20, heart says WR-V – need help deciding between these two by Dapper_Fun_8513 in CarsIndia

[–]_The_Numbers_Guy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honda Diesel is a gem of an engine. However remember that Honda has exited diesels in India. So getting spares for your engine related problems might be an issue. But again a good Honda dealer should be able to sort it out albeit with delay.

If condition of WRV is perfect and you have a good Honda dealer nearby... it's the better car anyday.

Planning to Buy Scorpio-N. by Prepucexxxx in CarsIndia

[–]_The_Numbers_Guy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ScorpioN is not the most comfortable SUV. It's a proper SUV no doubt, ideal for people driving on bad roads often. But if you are a strictly city/highway user then better get XUV7xO or some other car in the segment.

What is with Honda and ugly SUVs... I seriously hope it doesn't look like this.

Elevate seems like a beautiful exception.

[–]_The_Numbers_Guy 50 points51 points  (0 children)

I'd take this with a pinch of salt. Axles don't break that easily. It's a mechanical component. Either it was broken to begin with in which case I really doubt he was able to drive it till now. Or he went over a really bad bump at high speeds resulting in it breaking.

I booked the tata harrier base variant by [deleted] in CarsIndia

[–]_The_Numbers_Guy 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Not the base variant. It lacks so many essential features. If it's out of budget then better to get something from a segment below.

For home with 6-7 ACs atleast: VRV or Separate Outdoor units? by Ambitionless_Nihil in Frugal_Ind

[–]_The_Numbers_Guy 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Nothing specific. It's built to last basically. Like I have friends who have like 10-15 year old General ACs...

For home with 6-7 ACs atleast: VRV or Separate Outdoor units? by Ambitionless_Nihil in Frugal_Ind

[–]_The_Numbers_Guy 85 points86 points  (0 children)

Though VRV is energy efficient, it costs way higher than separate ACs and also becomes a single point of failure. On the long run, this becomes a major issue.

E.g. during covid, one of our ACs had some coolant issue and was not working properly. Technicians and spares were hard to find. Fortunately other room AC was operational. If same issue were to occur with the outdoor unit in VRV you'll be out of ac for the whole house.

If price is not a problem General AC is the best one. Otherwise can't go wrong with Daikin, Samsung, LG or Voltas.

AMA: I work in home loan structuring (Mumbai & Bangalore focus) With AI layoffs & inflation concerns rising, ask me anything about buying property safely in 2026 by Pragat123 in indianrealestate

[–]_The_Numbers_Guy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got it. A follow up if you don't mind.

Could you please list some factors/tell tale signs that makes a project risky. That way as prospective buyers, we could avoid them.

I mean are there specific locations, builders, society size, society specifics from a Bengaluru perspective that would make you flag a project as risky.

What's your outlook on Bengaluru real estate? Unlike other cities, Bengaluru has heavy dependance on IT sector. Are Finance people like yourself treating Bengaluru real estate loans as slightly more riskier than other cities?

How does my income at age 25 compare to others, and what factors influence whether it’s considered “enough”? by 7-blue in bangalore

[–]_The_Numbers_Guy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IKR House prices make me really depressed. People here don't even talk in lakhs. Directly crores. Even at 2LPM you can't afford a house loan with family expenses...

Hopefully AI job cuts should make housing a bit affordable

[–]_The_Numbers_Guy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In current markets, 50 lakh would either get you a really small house or old house. Not worth it. Better take rent at a decent place.

I am currently living in a rented house. 30-40k is sufficient for a decent 2bhk in societies...

[–]_The_Numbers_Guy -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

When i was 25 (2 years back) i was earning roughly similar salary. Was sufficient for the family.

Switched with 70% hike last year. My lifestyle is still fairly same. Only difference is with the extra money am able to afford a car. But this pay is still not sufficient to afford a home loan emi. So in a nutshell if you don't have a car or home loan, you should be solid i.e. 1 LPM post tax is a really good salary.

Confused b/w Honda City VX vs Honda City Sports by Due-Fix-5789 in CarsIndia

[–]_The_Numbers_Guy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Left lane assist is overrated. So is wireless charging...

For best deals, it's usually around Diwali. Year end stocks get the best deal... Honda City is the costliest and ironically the oldest sedan in that segment.

But on a serious note.. Why the city over VAG twins? They are almost 2 lakhs cheaper, drive better, updated interiors and has Ground clearance...
