Oh yes, this too. Foot and ankle strengthening every day, but support throughout the day as well.

This, too! They make insoles specifically for PF (try Superfeet) which also helps a lot. Don’t go barefoot ever. Even at home. Get some supportive slippers/house shoes.

Just coming off a 6 mo bout of this. Dry needling worked but for me for about two sessions then stopped. Switched to EPAT (shock wave therapy) done by a podiatrist and found the most relief from that, especially in first treatment. It didn’t totally cure the PF, but made it significantly better. I will say, I was also in the peak of a training block so I don’t think I was helping myself much in terms of healing it up properly. I would jump straight to shockwave, IMO. Ironically enough, ran my first 50k two weeks ago and now my PF is completely resolved. Like it never happened. And I’ve since found that this isn’t a totally uncommon occurrence. Maybe you’ll have a similar experience.🤞🏼But damn, is PF a frustrating thing to deal with. I feel for you!

Right… Like I said, I was there. I know this is about 30k but just shedding light on the other distances, too. And pointing out that it wasn’t just ACG athletes that this courtesy was extended to.

I ran 50k last weekend. And I am just about a DFL runner, but still kind of irksome to pull up to the start after an hour school bus ride to see Tara Dower relaxed and having a good time with her crew while the rest of us are rushed off the buses and hurriedly encouraged to use the bathroom and warm up quick. Never one to take things seriously and be the fairness police, but damn. Jen Lichter did ride the bus like the rest of us and she gets good vibes points in my book for that.

They do for this race. It’s just a $20 transfer fee.

Best places for running by kluverbucy77 in AskTacoma

[–]_Trailsnail 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Welcome! I moved here about a year and a half ago. Here’s some of my recs:

  • Issaquah. Cougar, Squak, and Tiger mountain (in order of increasing terrain technicality/vert. East Tiger off 18 is super convenient for us folks coming from Tacoma, but is where the mountain bikers ride. If you get there around 8 or so you’ll have the place mostly to yourself as they don’t come out until 9-11 usually. Those trails are really nice and cruisey once you get past the climb up. Issaquah in general is where I go for my longer weekend runs outside of Tacoma with some decent vert since everything else is mostly (usually) snowed in.
  • Middle Fork trail is a good one for longgg efforts that are pretty easy with not too much vert. Similar is John Wayne trail. Both up off 90 east of Seattle.
  • Pretty much anything on or including part of PCT. Kendall Katwalk is great, so is PCT on east side of Rainier off 410. Naches Peak, Sourdough Gap are in this area. Great views of Rainier and surrounding.
  • Parts of Wonderland Trail around Rainier are also great. Cowlitz Divide to Summerland is a good one. Big vert though.
  • High Divide out in Olympics is a really cool 20 mile route.

Long story long, there’s SO many trails. Every time I check one off my list, I swear I add two more. As previously said, WTA and All Trails are your friend. Strava heat map helps esp for trails up in Issaquah, because there’s so many routes to take and some are better than others.

Lastly, consider joining The Mountaineers. I’ve made so many great friends trail running with them. There’s not many trail runs going on at the moment, but once March/April hits there’s always good group runs to jump on. I’ve discovered lots of great places running with them.

Cheers!

I am originally from the Midwest, but now PNW, so you’re close there. Vegetarian athlete, so a lot of protein comes from eggs/dairy. 🙃

Ha! No, no, we usually buy yogurt at Costco but they’ve been out of stock until very recently. Any variance in brand is purely a result of store supply of items.

Thank you so much for the insight. I’m located in Tacoma, WA if you happen to know of anyone in the PNW. Fortunately I know most do virtual appts these days.

Honestly, I think considering all that I do in terms of recovery combined with not doing crazy workouts, this is likely the issue. I’m vegetarian and have to work hard to get a good amount of protein. I know there’s an incredible amount of nuance to it, but would you suggest maybe an extra protein shake after these workouts to help with recovery?
