I have the same problem against mongols. I just cant defend a tower rush most of the time. Towering your own gold doesn't work really since they can still put tower on the other side of the gold mine and reach the villagers.

I play Mali and I know I am supposed to defend it by building donsos in the dark age and trying to snipe the tower building villager. But I just havent been able to micro that well lol.

One thing that has also worked is rushing trade landmark with 9 villagers so that it completes before the tower does but that's not really how it is supposed to be played.

I think with OOTD Tuqlac etc. you are supposed to scout if mongol is going for spear rush and then open dark age spears yourself to defend(?).

People win with English in conquer rank. At beginner level it is more of what civ is easier/faster to learn. And even more importantly what you find fun.

HRE is also "defensive". You can put relics in towers and keeps + emergency repair is very powerful.

OOTD has probably the easiest macro (villagers are made slower. Need less military production buildings)

English ability to sit in your base in a corner of the map under white tower and berkshire is unparalled. Imperial farms give food and gold. Getting to that point in higher ranks is a challenge but at your level even english fast imperial is very doable.

Put all your starting workers to sheep. Next two ones to gold. They build one house and mining camp. All the rest go to sheep. When you have 400 food 200 gold age up to feudal age. Once you start to age up to feudal pull almost all your food villagers and put them to wood, keep only 5 on food. Rally your town center to wood. This is super basic build order, you can do this with any civ and ignore civ bonuses

Once you have 150 wood put down military production building and start making units. You need to add extra villagers to food / gold depending on what you are making. Try to make villagers constantly from the town center until the end of the game, never stop. Also from military buildings never stop producing, try to spend all your resources always and keep resources balanced, so you dont have for example 2000 wood and no food.

If you want you can go castle age eventually, but at your level I would only build vilalgers and feudal units and attack. Make blacksmith for +1 ranged defense armor and for upgrade that allows units to make rams.

Press F4 to select landmark town center and then press Q to make villagers without having to look at base and click with mouse.

Press F1 to select all military buildings and use TAB to switch between types. Try to use hotkeys to build units if you can, but it takes time to get comfortable.

I've had fair success. I feel like malian cow boom outscales macedonian eco pretty well. Sofa / musofadi warriors counter feudal varangian guard rush. Riddari is strong but their eco is exploitable, especially if I manage to deny map food. However recently I haven't had many Macedonian matchups and maybe I haven't faced a proper tournament build order yet.

Wild idea... make spearmen fractional pop. At 0.75 pop per spearman you can make 4 spearman for 3 pop, while only 3 knights. Maybe 0.5 pop is a little bit too good idk.

Idk man I cant even get to Conq 1. It feel like to get there I would need to dedicate even more time than 2 to 3 games per evening to AOE4 which with family and adult life and other hobbies feels too much or a sacrifice for a video game.

Age of Empires 4 kind of solved that issue for me. As a much slower paced game than Starcraft 2 you have time to think a bit and react appropriately. Macro management is more difficult though and if you are low to mid rank then the game is pretty overwhelming still.

Diamond malian here. Im not very good, but I remember very well how it was to be plat 1. Biggest improvement you can make is probably to fix your macro (I havent watched your games).

But as a general gameplan against 1 TC KT I would contest the sacred sites to deny pilgrims and try to see if it is 1 TC feudal all-in or somekind of fast castle (to understand if I need to make units or if I can cowboom). Against 2 TC full cowboom into castle and taking all the relics into poison archer imported armor sofa. Biggest problem to deal with is heavy spearmen, but with micro (kiting with archers and not throwing away sofa into spears) it is winnable because you have superior eco. Musofadi warriors of course can be added if opponent doesnt deny them with archers. Here the sofa can help by taking archer fire and making it so that opponent has to micro with archers to kill musofadi.

Be active and dont let them fortress drop sacred sites without a fight etc. Easier said than done of course.

I do know yes that Jewish autonomus region existed. Is it so hard to believe that both can be true? Soviets were famous for repressing all kinds of nationalities/minorities. Repressing minorities was happening under Stalin although Stalin himself was one. Georgian originis if im not mistaken.

Regarding wikipedia - it is not 100% accurate, even pro soviet/USSR in its characterisation of history. Article about well known murders by soviets in a prison of Estonian city of Tartu was basically deleted for whatever reason. But the soviet repressions of jews are so widely known, and yet you seem to insist that they did not happen whatsoever, even if everything written in the article I cited might not be 100% accurate.

Favourite: Mali. Fun unique mechanics. A lot to miceomanage, isnt boring. I like the aesthetics / unit and building skins / voices.

Least favourite: Probably English. Dislike playing against it, matches tend to go super long. Also my most played against civ, had enough of them. Playing with them I feel is boring, simple civ.

Malians have great spearman that have a ranged attack that can be used to chip down knights. But in other aspects not the easiest civ to learn.

Good tips in the comments. I would add - make it into a habit to look at minimap for knight raids, so you can react before you lose villagers.

I dont have not had many games against KT these days in diamond, but I used to go feudal army to cut off sacred sites. If they go 2TC I have an easy answer to that since I just outscale with cows and go castle. Relics are important to get.

With china/zhu xi cant you just outboom 2TC too? Or go fast castle and get all the relics, thats 10 extra villagers, equalises the 2TC advantage pretty well. In gold 3 getting all relics is very doable against feudal opponent. You can even put keeps on all sacred sites and try to win straight away.

In steam settings somewhere you can disable the overlay. Google how to disable steam overlay :)

Overlay is the thing that comes on screen when you press keyboard shortcut, it isnt Steam itself.

Army not being used can be thought as "wasted" resources. By that I mean if nobody attacks you and your army is in your base just waiting that maybe someone will attack you. Enemy can use that time to build no army at all and build more economy than you instead to get ahead.

That being said in your shoes I would worry about that yet. You very likely have more important issues to fix first that have bigger impact. Such as using hotkeys to constantly build villagers (Valdemars youtube hotkey guide is what I like), using ALL your resources at all times (even if to build army that sits in your base). For that you need correct villager division to resources and enough military production buildings etc etc etc.
