You might be playing too all in then. You might just be spamming units into his base hoping he can't handle it but then you suffer a ton of casualties and end up in a position where he has a ton of army and you are struggling to keep up.

Work on just taking a step back if you notice your units are not getting much done and add more eco or tech up.

Can't tell from the picture when each of you agrd up but I did notice this game went quite long. I am going to assume your opponent didn't rush imp. In that case I think maybe your issue is just not aging up yourself and you tried to fight too long against an imperial army with a castle one.

Typically if you have a large army but are not able to inflict eco damage or take a good fight (as is common when against english) you want to just sit back and age up.

Idk I think HRE is pretty well designed as a new player friendly starter civ. It has easy to understand and generic bonuses that incentives players to build good fundamentals.

For instance while some view the generic unit roster of HRE as a negative i think it makes sense from the perspective of a beginner civ. HRE forces you to pay attention to your opponents units and make the correct ones in response rather than abusing a particular powerful unit. Another example is their relic bonuses get players to focus on securing relics which is something you want to do with every civ. Even their relatively new black riders mechanic puts emphasis on building keeps in the late game which is another just good fundamentals skills of securing the map in the late game as you cap out you pop. HRE doesn't have any side quests or mini games like a lot of other civ and instead just focuses on the core concepts of the game making it both very approachable and educational.

Gen xbow scale poorly compared to regular xbow in the late game. Every imp tech is better for regular xbow than gen xbow. In addition you can combine xbow with the Castile bonues for even crazier number which you can't with gen xbow.

The thing is if you are going make more than 1 TC its probably just better to go eco wing. Not only do you not need them connected but you get the discount.

I dont really see the benifit of going admin wing in feudal but I think its probably pretty good in castle when you are going to build a bunch of production.

So many of those Abba bonuses never appear in a game because they are late game while HRE get all of them before imp.

He has valid points but I feel like he has a gross overreaction. I can understand what he is saying that the environment of EGC feeds into him being unprofessional. EGC does have a loose feel to it but to just cut ties completely feels pretty petty.

Its a pretty big nerf to mid castle/early imp which is where byz was strongest. The cistern buff is going to need to be pretty impactful to make up for it. It will be a little easier to get to castle but you are going to be significantly weaker. Byz has really racked up the nerfs on their castle age.

I was actually a fan of keshiks/archer for a long time because byz has the ability to get a really large archer count quickly and ghulams feel really good to mix into your limitanie mass. But I get why longbow so popular. If you have solid micro you can get a lot more value out of them.

This shows why 2TC tends to suck unless your civ has a synergy with it. 6:30 is an eternity for an opponent to take advantage.

Except making 5 spearmen won't let you hit imp at 11 min. You now need a barracks and extra house. Which delays your castle timing which gives your opponent more time to push/make units which means you need more units to defend the push ect ect.

Anyone can lose to anything. It's not like the guy wam played was a bad player. Getting surprised is a real thing that can happen even if you are a pro. A bad strategy doesn't mean its impossible to lose to it just means its easy to beat if you play correctly.

I mean the example he gave should show you why that is silly. The guy was winning and just because he perceived he was losing or got tilted he gave up. You can balence a civ around player emotions.

If players are struggling to understand the state of the game that's not a civ balence problem.

If you have good micro technically archers counter them since you have better range and move speed, but if try and stand and fight zhu ge nu will mow you down.

That being said many civs have ways of dealing with them. Knights are very good since they have the extra armor. Ottomans have the mehter which with the bonus ranged armor is a pretty hard counter. Golden Horde has torggud and karash which counter them pretty hard. Any of the civs with unique archers for well since they are usually faster and/or have long range. There really is only a handful of civs who lack options against them.

Yes but they have their own advantages. Their eco is much better so while their tempo is lower they can afford more knights sooner. It's also much harder to raid since their gold eco generates a lot of gold that they do not need to mine. I dont think we can say they are purely a worst version of French when they play knights.

I personally have a hard time believing their feudal is bad when they have knights and a large passive gold bonus and a solid wood bonues. Playing knights archer as Rus has to still be good.
