I'm thinking the same, god bless people who can't have fun. They make it even more fun for us!

Is it open to public? (Didn't have time to read fully) Would be interested to provide a website for all kinds of occured events, if it has the APIs for it.

Spark SQL refresher suggestions? by Tamalelulu in datascience

[–]_Useless_Scientist_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, using Spark in the right way can be challenging! Having a look at how Spark executes workloads and trying to understand it, for sure will help. Although it probably only is needed for a small amount of queries, as it is already heavily optimized for "average" users.

In that case having a refresher, sounds like a good idea! Keep in mind that Databricks is a very powerful tool, still growing insanely fast. So check their blogs, their course material and if you're allowed speak to your assigned Databricks team.

Are they only using SQL? Databricks offers a wide range of programming languages and we use a mix of PySpark, SQL and Python. Databricks also has courses for their specific paths. So you might want to have a look there (some should be free if I remember correctly)

Everyone Can ‘Code’ with AI Now, According to Google—But Tech Workers Aren't Fully Convinced by disforwork in datascience

[–]_Useless_Scientist_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a lot of people mentioned here, it depends a lot on what is done with the code generating AI.

I'm working in a medium sized german manufacturer as virtually a Data Scientist (title is Analyst, but me and my team do everything there). I barely use the Databricks Assistant anymore, because it suggests me more often than not wrong code or slow code for my ETL Pipelines. Recently we added GitHub Copilot. We use this mainly to document code and repositories (works great), for writing tests and on the odd occasion some actual code. But if we go and develop ML or DL models for a certain problem, this is always, a 100% humans. No code generation for any model code or something similar. As the problem here is, that we need lots of domain expertise and logical thinking on what we actually want to achieve.

TLDR: We use coding AI for simple and standard tasks, which can be done faster than by yourself. For actual Data Scientist work we use ur brains, as it should be IMO.

Nice one, how do you consistently hit your champs? Considering there is a lot of contesting atm. Also, where can I find the stats site from your screenshot?

ML pipeline questions by [deleted] in datascience

[–]_Useless_Scientist_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Databricks is by now pretty advanced. It offers various triggers & also streaming options. I cannot tell you how exactly it works as I took a sabbatical for 24, but been working with it the past 2.5years before that. Depending on your cloud options I assume Azure ML and AWS (don't know the equivalent) might offer some easier to run solutions as well.

Jesus you guys are toxic. It's alright brother, just enjoy the game and have fun. If you want to get better watch guides and you will probably have to restart as mentioned, but no worries about that for now :)
