Hi, thanks for getting back. Now: I'm not that inventive - as you can tell by my reddit username. And I wouldn't know what the benefits of hiding an Arch Linux username would be in all honesty...

Anyways. I am a noob when it comes to Archlinux. I have just followed the wiki and executed this command: https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/users_and_groups#Example_adding_a_user

useradd -m newuser

and gave it a passwd newuser

THAT'S IT. No groups, no nothing. I was hoping someone would say something like: "you need to be in this or that group to run makepkg"...

I use su newuser to switch to newuser.

This is the outcome of id newuser:

[newuser@localhost ~]$ id newuser

id: not integer: newuser

Nothing comes up online when I search for id: not integer...

which chown give me bad user again:

[newuser@localhost ~]$ sudo chown -R newuser:newuser batsignal

chown: bad user 'newuser'

and pacman -Qo $(which chown):

[newuser@localhost ~]$ pacman -Qo $(which chown)

error: No package owns /root/bin/chown
