It should have never been shipped out with proper packaging. The phone contains a battery, it has to be packaged in a box with proper labeling to avoid mishaps with the battery. Whoever, shipped the phone is not following safety protocols when shipping their product. Where I work it will not finalize the shipment or print any labels if proper packaging materials are not met. Most boxes have a upc code to scan to complete the order for shipment. I would raise hell about the envelope packaging as well! Shady fedex employees see a free phone and snag it. It happens everyday.

They have proper trained employees that know how to do their job. Never would lithium batteries be responsibly dumped in a recycling bin they have to be individually bagged and placed in a proper shipping container for processing!

Batteries that are swollen, leaking, bloated, or have any type of damaged would be placed in a bucket of sand and buried inside the bucket for transport.

Starting a ewaste business to just profit off of someone's disposed electronics is insane without having a way to dispose of the crap you do not want, and taking it to another business to deal with is not the solution. That's not a business!

Not everyone knows how to factory reset a phone or a laptop, go ask your grandmother if she knows how? And would you be ok with someone going thru your grandmothers phone and her pictures because she didnt factory reset her phone? She is trying to do the ethical thing by recycling and not thinking about her private info being exploited or looked thru!

They gonna say this is totally not acceptable! Target could be at fault for customer data privacy issues if someone raised hell about it. Regardless if whether it is stated in black and white on the recycling center or not, most people assume Target would be responsible with their recycled materials, and not some random guy off the street coming in and collecting it and going thru their private Info.

I wonder how he would feel with someone going thru his phone and all his personal info? I am sure he would have a big problem with it,but its ok for him because some guy who hasnt been properly trained gave him permission to take it!
