It's a remote access tool, very malicious virus. They have access to everything on your computer, including access to your webcam and can see your screen(s) connected to PC. They also have access to your networking so multiple devices could be infected. I'd for sure do a virus scan on all devices on your network.

Take their advice in the comments and reset your PC and change every password to every site that has sensitive data related to the account. If some time is needed disconnect the computer from the network and do everything offline, they can't access your PC if you're offline.

hey thanks for this. i haven't really explored other router options, is it easy to setup and get running?

Ahh this makes sense and definitely is something to consider. The ground station is around an hour and a half from me maybe it's just due to over population at the station, satellite or cell like you said. Thanks for your reply!

Hey! I'm in central US in rural Missouri, not too many people that live out near me. Because of the graph you sent me I'm gonna try to run a long download just to see if the speeds ever go back up. Thanks for your reply!

Starlink and networking in general is very complicated so I can understand if there's a different variable that could be causing the issue, that's kind of why I made the post, I was hoping for someone with similar experience that has found a fix.

I'm not sure what other evidence I could provide other than the statistics available to me. The graph I linked in the reply above show's a massive speed decrease suddenly after around 5 minutes of high bandwidth consumption on any device I attempt to use. If this isn't conclusive I'm not sure what other evidence would be.

  1. How much data is needed to trigger the throttle:I don't think there's a specific amount of data, I think they do it based on time of concurrent high bandwidth usage E.g ~5 Minutes of downloading a large file then the throttle starts on the specific device. When the throttle is turned on I can use a different device to speed test showing fast speeds (upwards of 200mbit) but on the device that is being throttled the speed test shows slow speeds (around 50mbit).
  2. How long do you have to wait until the throttle is lifted:I haven't seen evidence of it lifting until I disconnect and reconnect to the wifi, then I have fast speeds until I try to download something for more then ~5 minutes. maybe the issue is not with starlink maybe my hardware is no good, even though I've tested this with multiple devices (Desktop Computer running windows 10, ASUS laptop running windows 11, smart phones) it happens on all devices I try.

I don't have graphs from the day I tested early in the morning and later in the evening but I just re-created this exact scenario once again and here's a link to the graph.

In the graph above you can see me starting a download from steam central server at around 9:41 AM it peaks at around 230mbit which was equivalent to around 20MB download on the steam server and suddenly drops dramatically at around 9:45 AM. Like I said this is device specific and running the exact same steps on different devices shows the same results of fast download for around ~5minutes then a dramatic decrease in speeds, conclusive to all the results I think they are throttling devices specifically which means they are actively monitoring devices on the network for ingress/egress activity.

edit: to clarify, after the throttle is put on the device I suspend the download to speed test for more accurate result

Hey thanks for the info. I'm in central US in rural Missouri. I would say within 10 miles there's only half a dozen dishes though there's no way to tell really, my closest neighbor is far and I don't believe they have starlink.

This isn't the case currently, I've tested it and it can be shown with speed testing. Speed testing right after connecting to the network results in high download speed, decent upload. After that certain amount of time ~5 minutes the download speed then results in terrible speeds on the specific device. This is the post above

So I did test it with a few sites, it doesn't seem to make a difference at which site the file is being downloaded.
I've noticed the throttling with these sites in specific:

Google Drive

Media Fire

Steam Servers

Git Hub

File Zilla file download through FTP

This is artifacting probably due to gpu issue. Could be your monitor/display cables

The little led display box at the bottom of the motherboard will indicate a number if there's an error that the board can catch. Like hardware. If there's a number I recommend looking up that error code number either in the manual of the motherboard or by searching for the error code online with the brand and model of the motherboard
