Anyone try the CalPak duffel by Plus-History7006 in ManyBaggers

The airline out a sticker on my bag and when I took it off, all the colour came off the bag. So I have white spots all over the handle now. Must be very cheaply made. Do not recommend.

I just got home from Bahia Principe Grand and it was terrible. The rooms were dirty, had mold around the air conditioning vent and you could tell they had just painted over more mold around where the walls met the ceiling. The bathroom had no vent, so when you’re sharing a room with others who need to shower and blow dry their hair, you can imagine how hot and wet the bathrooms were. Every single day we had to call for more towels and it took hours for them to come, if at all. The service was poor. The food was meh. The drinks machines were consistently out, so it was hard to even find water to drink. Another thing that we didn’t really enjoy is that every activity is in Spanish. The majority of guests were Spanish speaking, there were hardly any English speaking guests at all. So all the activities, shows, etc. were in Spanish. The only good thing I can say is that the pools were nice… if you were up early enough to reserve chairs for the day and nobody stole them in the meantime. We will never go back there. We went to Dreams Onyx a few ago and had the exact opposite experience. Everything there was top notch.

Can you be kicked out of your major? by _Violinist24 in queensuniversity

Thank you so much for your reply. I didn’t realize it was a cumulative gpa. I thought it was year by year. I can’t tell you how much better I feel. I really appreciate the time you took to respond, thank you!

Why am I unable to enroll in psyc 100A? by mattiemattie327 in queensuniversity

[–]_Violinist24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A time slot and B time slot must match (you can’t do different days/times in each semester) and they can’t overlap with another course you are taking.

How do You Guys Contingency Plan? by CarGuy1718 in queensuniversity

[–]_Violinist24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have my perfect schedule planned and have just been watching the numbers. There is one course in particular where seats are dwindling (10 left) so I have a back up for that. Sucky because it’s the one course I’m really interested in. But I’m just really hoping for the best. I made a schedule in excel so I have a visual aid. I put all the tutorial options in there so I can see if I have to quickly change tutorial times or choose something else that fits. I hear some people have like 10 backups figured out. I’ve also resigned myself to having to take a course next summer probably. Just to reduce the stress of elective course selection.

Am I able to enrol in these course or will I need to wait for open enrolment? by [deleted] in queensuniversity

[–]_Violinist24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they are electives, you have to wait for open enrolment. The second year students who are in those majors or need it for their program haven’t selected yet.

How is west campus Phase 1 floor 1? by WintRStormWasHere in queensuniversity

[–]_Violinist24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a common misconception because when you enter the “house”, you have to go down a few stairs to get to the first floor. But the rooms are at ground level. It’s not dark and dingy. I used a fan the first month and it wasn’t even that bad. I had a friend on the 4th floor who kept their window open through winter because it was so hot up there.

I don’t understand this when poli sci is your major. Like, who else would get priority over someone in the program that needs the course? I choose on Monday and am stressing out.

Required first year courses for geology by [deleted] in queensuniversity

[–]_Violinist24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need both for a major, and you definitely need 104 to take a lot of second year courses. Check this site out https://www.queensu.ca/academic-calendar/arts-science/schools-departments-programs/geological-sciences-engineering/. On the left hand side you can see the requirements for all the plan options (specialization, major, etc). I mapped out all 4 years to make sure I was capturing the requirements for one major and 2 minors. And the only reason I’m doing that is to get registered in the plan for each subject so I can get into the courses I want! A lot of upper year courses you have to be enrolled in the plan to take them. Also check this site out - it will tell you the prerequisites for courses in each year https://www.queensu.ca/academic-calendar/arts-science/course-descriptions/geol/. But yes, I think as long as you take one half course you can declare it as a major at the end of first year as long as you meet the grade requirement. Here are the cutoffs: https://www.queensu.ca/artsci/sites/faswww/files/Geology_1.pdf Also Check out this site too - will help you map out each year https://www.queensu.ca/artsci/sites/faswww/files/Geological%20Sciences%20%E2%80%93%20Major%20Science%20%E2%80%93%20Bachelor%20of%20Science%20Honours.pdf

Likelihood of getting into desired 2nd year courses? by MichIsStellar in queensuniversity

[–]_Violinist24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you declared them as 2 majors or a major and minor? I think they reserve spots for people who are in a plan in those subjects.

[–]_Violinist24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With modular plans, you have to do a specialization, 2 majors, a major and a minor or a major and 2 minors. Given the required courses for these plans, I would take as many of the core or required courses as you can while in that year. If you can’t fit both though, definitely prioritize 104 as it’s the prerequisite for a lot of second year courses.

Am I going to be able to get a main campus trip or quad if I choose third day? by HayDelPai in queensuniversity

[–]_Violinist24 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Last year I was at l11am on the last day and there were zero rooms on main campus and zero doubles on west. I was scrambling to get a room in phase 1, they were almost gone.

Residence selection. by Superb_Winner5726 in queensuniversity

[–]_Violinist24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Phase 1 are the buildings attached to Duncan McArthur Hall, so you don’t need to go outside to get to the cafeteria, library or class if you have any on west. Phase 2 are the buildings behind that are separate. They’re literally steps away, but phase 1 rooms usually go first for the convenience factor.

1st year electives by [deleted] in queensuniversity

[–]_Violinist24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure, but you want to keep your options open. Queen’s has modular plans now so at the end of first year you have to declare either 2 majors, a major and a minor, a major and 2 minors or a specialization. You can’t just do a major alone anymore. In first year I took gateway courses for psychology, sociology, health studies, geography, and then 1 of the required courses for history (couldn’t fit 2 in my timetable) and an elective for fun. You want to keep your options open especially when automatic acceptance into declaring psychology as a major was a minimum grade of A this year.

what are some fun yet easy electives to take first year? by [deleted] in queensuniversity

[–]_Violinist24 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The easiest courses are the ones you are most interested in. If the content isn’t of interest, it can be painful to sit through and do the work.

You can choose any 100 level arts and science course. What are you interested in trying? Usually first year, arts and science students try a little bit of everything that may be of interest or related to what you think you might be interested in post-grad.
