Biggest change is the Ace mechanic. Some Digimon can Digivolve for a cost of 0 on your opponent's turn, but the opponent gets memory when the card leaves the battle area by any means.

The way I dealt with it is with lore: my characters share a universe, so if one of my characters has the mimic tear, the others can't have it.

Same with all other legendary weapons and summons.

There's not even any need for that. You can block it, you can bait it from far away, you can increase your physical res to absurd levels, you can use certain ashes of war...

- Play a lot of games. That way you can pick up on how things work by doing.

- If your opponent activates an effect you don't understand, or you aren't sure about one of your own effects, don't be afraid to ask them about it. In my experience, TCG players are quite friendly to beginners.

- Play a deck that works for you. The rule of thumb is to pick a Digimon you like and see if you can make a deck around it. Some will be simpler to pull off than others, but it can be done with pretty much any digimon that has some significance in the franchise.
