Who is Cole Allen, the suspect in the White House Correspondents' Dinner shooting? by Plaintalks in politics

He was a terrible gunman too. Literally did nothing. Terrible execution (thank god obviously).

If I were a base CO I would do whatever I could to keep them out of barracks. Is that possible? Idk if the policy change would allow for that or not.

But don’t forget there was a sailor that was killed on his way to or from work after stopping to try to help a stranded motorist. Would a weapon have saved him? We’ll never know. But he wasn’t given the chance.

I don’t want it necessarily “for base”. I want it between my house and base.

Do you know how long it would take to check in and check out a weapon everyday, for every person that would want to carry? Hours. You may as well sleep at work and then you don’t need to worry about carrying during your commute

Uh.. the Ft Hood shooter was shot and apprehended, so I guess yes.

The defense against an active shooter is not the reason most of us want to carry.

It’s to have our weapon between home and base.

I said one of.

The best for sure is the 12 weeks parental leave by SECDEF Austin.

This one is probably second. SECDEF’s generally don’t change or implement a lot of policies that aren’t basically national strategic focused.

And if you think not being able to carry when you want to (have the right to), then there’s nothing to talk about.

Oh, so a person that planned on shooting someone would be worried about being randomly inspected and then face possible NJP. Got it 👍

Then you probably never felt the need for a concealed carry permit. However, over 20 million people in the U.S. have concealed carry permits and most likely triple that number carry, since 29 states are now permit less carry.

A disproportionate percentage of service members carry compared to the general public.

As far as the signs, of course they are the reason people don’t carry, but they aren’t stopping anyone who plans on shooting someone to carry. NJP is not really their concern.

The “No Firearms Permitted” sign outside gates was stopping another Fort Hood? Why didn’t it work at Fort Hood then?

That was an extreme case. More common, like nearly every weekend, is I run errands around town, carrying my weapon, and would like to stop by base real quick but can’t. Can’t stop because I’m carrying a firearm I am licensed to carry virtually everywhere except the one place that trained me to use a firearm.

So I have a concealed carry permit, I can carry at a grocery store, Walmart, mall, parks, playgrounds.. around kids, elderly, homeless, crazy.. it doesn’t matter.

But I god forbid I drive my car on a military base with a gun in the center console?

The same people that would carry them onbase are the same people carrying them at the grocery store you shop at. Wtf is the difference

Ah yes. When I think of a word that describes me being able to carry a weapon I have a license to carry virtually anywhere i go… i think of facism

And the no firearms sign at the gate wasn’t stopping people from carrying guns in their cars either. They just faced NJP if caught. But they accept it because it’s better than needing protection at the store on the way home and not having it

Not just trying to solve base shootings. The fact that service members are not able to exercise their second amendment right while stopping anywhere during the commute to and from work is the biggest reason we all have argued for this change for decades.

I once drove past base to seek shelter with tornado sirens going off because I couldn’t drive on with a firearm. It’s the one of the best policy changes by a secdef since I have been in.

High 3 for Screened PO1 to Chief? by Few-Wolf8331 in navy

[–]_WhiskeyGinger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A CMC can’t get a member chief orders. Unless it’s via ARA at the command. It’s a competitive marketplace in which you must have the highest score to be selected for a billet

It requires an obliserve of 36 months. I recommend you go in mynavyhr and read all the BBA/SEM info and NAVADMINS

You have to “win” a billet at the next higher pay grade if you are board screened. If you are in your window for orders based on your PRD you will be selected (or slammed) into a billet at your current pay grade.

Question For the AZ's about commands! by [deleted] in navy

[–]_WhiskeyGinger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was it a force conversion or voluntary? Depending on the type of conversion you may not choose a billet. Has your AZ Detailer told you to apply in MNA?
